I'd play George MacIntyre

😳😳😳
If you think Merk is leaving for the portal at seasons end are you suggesting that we let him audition for his future team? Please tell me this post should have been blue font.

If a guy is gonna transfer out because the QB room is gonna be crowded and he hasn’t gotten a shot at all, I’d rather see what he can do and see if he is worth making an offer to stay.

We aren’t gonna roll into 2026 with Merk, Mac, and Faizon with virtually zero experience.

Instead it will likely be Mac and Faizon and Heupel going portal shopping for a QB.

I just find it idiotic to not see what we have with Merk in the 3 meaningless games we have left to see if he might be someone who could be successful in Heupel’s system. Especially since the current QB has no eligibility left.

At first I thought you were just completely misguided but it's the height of stupidity to assume that the 3 remaining games are meaningless.

@JMSqb11 is Butch Jones. Tell Nathan Peterman we said hello. Nice job starting him in the swamp there Lyle

Tennessee is 9 games into the 2025 season and we have failed to meet all but one goal:

- ❌Eliminated from SEC Title contention
-❌ Eliminated from Playoff Contention
- ❌Losing record to our Big 3 Rivals
- ✅We are bowl eligible

There is literally nothing of significance left in the season that can be marked as an accomplishment.

But sure, we have meaningful games left that are so important

Heupel has seen who Merk is and has developed into for the last year. Heupel likely doesn't need to start Merk just so you can see what he already probably knows: Merk isn't going to be an SEC starter.

You act as though Merk and G-Mac have been in a dark room their entire time at UT. They haven't. They've BEEN evaluated and continue to be evaluated because from the moment they got to Knoxville they might be the future starter at UT. They aren't unknowns to the staff.

Get a grip. Sure, game reps would be good for them and NMState should provide that opportunity but start????? Just get a grip.

How about this just a friendly wager assuming there are no injuries. If Merk starts the last 3 games I will stop posting on Volnation. If he doesn't you stop posting on Volnation. I'm almost to the point where if a backup QB gets any playing time I think it's 15 and not 12.

Practice reps and film are nothing close to actual game reps. No one with a brain cell would argue that. But then again putting full faith in the coach who doesn’t know the clock rules shouldn’t be a concern.

Tennessee literally has first hand experience with this. Worley killed it at practice, Dobbs did not.

Milton killed it at practice, Hooker not so much

We have 3 exhibition games left that mean nothing and provide an opportunity for Heupel to get a jumpstart on sorting out the QB room for 2026 and beyond.

But sure, it’s best to just trust the practice reps over actual game reps in meaningless games.

Of course he won’t do it. He wants to roll into 2026 with 2 freshman QB’s battling it out in practice.

No disrespect but the landscape of college football is no longer close to what it was. Merk may only be slightly behind Boob Carter to hit the portal because Carter may get the Nico Imemyamaleaving treatment at some point in the last 3 games. No way does a coach let a certain portal casualty audition for his future team. LMAO. If my boss was letting me go the first of December but just to see if I am worth keeping his going to promote me to GM this last month. 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄😔😔😔

Lyle ... Really just one more time? Power of 63, tied for 13th youngest team in the nation for shower etiquette (no wait wrong coach) 13th youngest team to have ever flown by plane before? Bricks by Dick?

Apparently you need crayons and a coloring book to have a conversation. There are plenty of them for sale on Amazon. Enjoy.

I'm not advocating no reps for the backups but to fold up our tent on the season and say "We're looking to next year" sends a message to recruits that we aren't a serious, gritty, and worthy program.

You simply don't understand that we're one year away from a CFP appearance and we got a raw deal from a head case QB this year. It is regrettable but no reason to give up our pride this season in the last 3 games and stop caring about those games except at exhibitions.

Have some pride and go down swinging.

You simply don’t believe that Heupel is capable of getting a backup QB prepared to start against a CUSA team with 2 weeks of practice. I don’t know why you doubt his ability so much. But Negavols are gonna Negavol

I don't believe Heupel NEEDS to get a backup QB ready. He has a starter who has a decent rhythm with the team and a good amount, apparently, of locker room support and leadership in that locker room.

Is Joey injured and I missed it?

We have a starter.

You're a quitter who should turn in your orange.

Weird way to say you doubt Heupel’s abilities to get players ready. Sad stuff. Just say you don’t believe in him.

I couldn't get past the first few comments in this thread. This seems like typical VN stupidity at work.

No idea if it's been said or not, but let's say you play Mac, lose to Fla and Vandy and then he still transfers. What did you get out of that equation? I think someone else said it on page 1. Play to win the game and one who gives you the best chance. That's JA - end of story. Next year can take care of itself next year.

But it may be none of these guys next year. There are good QB's who are going to hit the portal in January. We will be on some of them.

Joey had his shot. It is what it is.

Then when we lose at Florida and against Vandy - you and the others who think this is a good idea would be the first to complain that we lost because we played GM and shift to the fire all the coaches because they were stupid enough to play the backup.

And you do realize that would send a message to any future QB at Tennessee - once the playoff dream is over, so is your time to play. If I am in the portal - I am not considering Tennessee.
