How can CPF call one of the two remaining TO's to ice Succop? Did he not realize that we still had 1:30 left in the came? If we would have kept the 2 TO's this game could have possbily been won in regulation. He needs to go. We got lucky and everyone knows it.

I was saying the same thing when he called it. There was still plenty of time to move the ball, especially with TWO timeouts. It worked out, though.

All I can think is that they may have wanted to reiterate that under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should we be over aggressive trying to block the kick, getting an offsides
and giving them a first down. If that was the case, and it worked, then it was worth it.

you say this and i agree that the extra timeout would have been nice, but if succop would have missed the field goal would you be saying the same thing?

That call I can actually see logic in. Unlike the Pro game time stops after 1st downs so that time out was not as valuable as it may be on a Sunday. If the kicker had missed it this would not be a discusssion. I do not agree with calling it but as I said I can see why he called it.

Fulmer said "calling the timeout was a tough decision, and daggummit!" on CPFS. translates to: "i made an idiot call?"

Yes I would. If Succop had missed, we could have used our time more wisely instead of having to spike the ball to stop the clock. The playbook could have opened up to more passes across the middle and possibly a closer field goal. Whether you are down 3 or tied with 1:30 left to go, the TO's are too valuable. Succop is a good kicker (although he blew the OT kick) - he's was not a freshman in a first time situation.

As I said I do not agree with it but atleast I can see some logic in it. I can not say that on alot of the calls made by this coaching staff.

I never really agree to icing the kicker with a TO.

I think it is harder to run out and make the kick without a TO. The TO just give the kicker time to chill.

We could have used the time out. What if we couldn't spike the ball in time to stop the clock?

yes got that from that statement too. What threw me off was the Smart Play equals Wins comment afterwards.

Think he is considering Running for Office after Retirement.

did anyone fine this move just awkward to watch? It was like Fulmer was acting like he was a good coach...but in the back of everyone's minds they knew he was just giving his best Urban Meyer impression to no avail. It just made me uncomfortable.

I was thinking the very same thing. It was like he was trying to impersonate a good coach.

What's next, "icing" a kicker on a 25 yard FG in the 2nd qtr?

If "Suckup":) misses we still have to score. So the time out was wasted. I think most people watching that game knew the correct call in that situtation, but our $2 millon dollar man on the sidelines couldn't get it right.

No!!! it was a very good time out call... I desperately had to pee and the time out gave me a moment to visit the restroom :eek:lol:

I thought that was the best move Fulmer made all night.

I thought the call was fine. I imagine they told the guys on the line not to jump offsides, or do anything dumb. There was still 1:30 on the clock, and we needed 40-50 yards (assuming there's so-so field position). It's reasonable that you can move down the field in a 2:00 drill, and still get close enough. Turned out that we didn't even need the time out, I thought we took it pretty early.

I was a lot more upset with the use of the 3rd timeout than I was with the one to ice the kicker. I would have rather seen us spike the ball on 2nd down and then take a shot on 3rd down with a timeout in our pocket just in case. It worked out for us, but I just didn't like having to play the final 30 seconds with no timeouts.

I don't mind the time out if it was used liked jwells suggested. Otherwise it's one of those moves that I swear I have never seen work this year. How may times have you seen a last second time out call, only to have the kicker go on to kick two in a row any way?

I agree. There was still plenty of time to run another quick play, then call the time out. Getting to the line quick and running a play may have kept the D on its heels, and prevented that semi-sack or whatever it was.
