I think you have hit on something. Somewhere along the line being "in the mix" seems to have gone from being a goal to being the mission.

I don't think it's a coincidence that the team whose coach uses that line as the last sentence of his comments on the first page of the school's media guide has won 1 National Championship and 5 conference titles since 2000 and currently resides at #1 in the polls.

Hat has a man crush, and rightfully so. Stoops has great program out there that ALL coaches should be envious of.

Who would envy anyone who has lost five of his last six bowl games? Get serious.

He's won 5 conference titles and played in 6 BCS bowls since 2000. He has also won 83% of his conference games since 1999. Pretty good program I would say.

True. It might be more accurate to express my affection for Dan Hawkins. Barnett had huge problems trying to do anything against Oklahoma or Texas except for the 01 title game.

Much worse than 3 out of his last 6. But how many of those were BCS bowl games? How many conference championships has he won during that time frame?

Bob and Pete have it made, no doubt. Playing in leagues with very little if any consistent competition make winning much easier. Although it will never happen, I'd like to see one of those guys take the head spot at UK. Opinions of greatness would diminish though each passing season.
