That's how nepotism works. One person is chosen over another based on relational factors, to the detriment of the group. There is a contingent of folks on this very board who love this kind of thing. Remember the calls for Tyler Summitt to lead UT or at least be on the staff? It's alive and well.

Shows you the difference in where Pearl has come in recruiting. He was always fighting to get in the game, had a few successes, but still had to build a roster with duct tape and bailing wire. I remember him commenting on his recruiting struggles. Being on ESPN for three years has upped his cred and he’s put together a roster full of 4-stars. He’s out recruited Barnes every year he’s been there and now you see the results.

Kudos to Barnes for what he’s done, but you’re talking about a guy that had a strong history and yet had absolutely ZERO equity when it came to signing top ranked players once he arrived at UT. I mean zilch.

That didn't bother me. Of course a father coaching his son and showing him favoritism happens. But how he broke NCAA rules, lied about it to Mike Hamilton and then to investigators, and put us in a mess is harder for me to forgive.

I was talking to my Dad on the phone yesterday evening. He told me that he was pulling for Auburn because of the SEC and Bruce. Bruce was one of the main reasons I was against the Tigers. Not only for putting us in a hole with his stupidity, but the crowning of Saint Bruce by some of the fans on here. If Auburn would have gone on to win the Championship, we would never hear the end of it. Now maybe the worshipers of Saint Bruce will now shut the hell up.

boy you people sound like your perfect in every thing you do im not a bruce pearl fan but he is a good coach so give the devil his due.

He lied, and asked those involved to cover up, that he allowed a recruit (who went elsewhere) to attend a barbecue. Not illegal, just an NCAA violation He lost his job and received a 2 year show cause suspension (on top of the 6 months he received while still employed). Which equates to about 4.5 million bucks. I think that his debt is paid in full. Now his has pulled himself back up and gone on to meet one of his life goals, making the final 4. Quite an accomplishment.

I'll forgive him for playing him. We had to many excellent seasons while Bruce was here to hold a grudge for playing Steven. We were even winning when he was doing that.

Yeah ...I mean, I’d like to see the list of unforgivables for Dooley and Butch. FWIW, w me personally, I’ll always appreciate Bruce, but not necessarily for what he did on the court. Twelve years ago, when my brother suddenly passed away, I went to the big orange caravan in CLT which Bruce, Pat and Fulmer attended. Of all the coaches, Bruce went out of his way to talk with me about my loss, and insisted on sitting next to me at the event. I’ll never forget that.

Just don’t understand the Bruce haters. He made a mistake and paid way too big of a price IMO. He accepted it and has moved forward and doing well. I would have given him another chance to coach UT and I bet he would have brought back exciting b-ball more quickly post Martin. We got CRB and I’m happy with him so it worked out for us just fine.

Certainly not a Bruce worshipper here although I respect his undeniable coaching abilities and IMO making the final 4 and not winning the championship probably won’t have a noticeable effect on the “Bruce worshippers”. The man can coach whether we forgive him or not. JMO mind you.

Lol. Duke Crews, Ramar Smith, Wayne Chism, Tobias Harris, Jordan McRae, Tyler Smith (brought him back), Scotty Hopson, Kenny Hall all day hi. All high level recruits, and 4 of them committed within Bruce’s first two years at UT.

Bruce had a relationship with the Pump brothers through Adidas and has relationships in Atlanta.
