Jake, you hit the nail on the head. I have resigned myself to the reality that Phil is on the Hill as long as he wants to be, or at least as long as Mike Hamilton's the AD. I cant even find the energy to get mad about anymore.
 yep......i'm done.

I love FULMER. He is tennessee to me. I love that he wins most of the games we arent expected to win. i love his loyalty to THE BIG ORANGE. i love the fact that he does it the right way, and i love the tradition he has helped mold which still brings 100k plus on gamedays. it is so obvious to me... a true vol fan , that he has more than earned his own way out when HE decides to call it quits. Thats my take GO VOLS

If you really believe this, I want some of what you are on.

But also, if someone thinks Fulmer "is" Tennessee football to them then so be it. I do not feel that way. I was a Vol fan before Fulmer and will be after.

But there is no doubt in my mind that he is an great head coach for our program, has been and will be.

On top of Fulmer by himself, the Fulmer/Chavis/Cutcliff trifecta is AWESOME as they feed off each other and make all three better individually.

The trend is totally UP in my mind with those three back at it together.

the univesity has done just as much for Fulmer as he has done for the university. he is a millionaire, with a NC ring and a college degree. very few, here, questions his character or values. it is about the ability to evolve with the game. he deserves another year for leading us to the SECCG. however, next year, i doubt we will be getting any help from UF or UG. if Fulmer can get us the SEC crown, he should stay. if he cant, he needs to go.

I agree with you 100%. He has earned one more year but if we dont win the SEC championship next year, I hope he steps down. That would be 10 years without a title.

he does not win most of the games we aren't expected to win. plus in the past few yrs he doesn't win the games that we are suppose to win (SC, Vandy)....i think fulmer is a classy guy, and i appreciate everything he has done. i just think it's passed him by.

For now you guys. Wait until we have the promise and hopes of another season ahead of us. And then CPF will ______ these hopes. TBD.
maybe, but i know this, when it does come back up, the issues raised wont' differ from what has been discussed for the past three years and it's just gotten tiresome. and knowing that he really isn't going anywhere makes it even more pointless than it was before.

so, until something changes, i'll likely go in to each season expecting at least two losses, one to Florida and someone TBD.

I hate to lose to Fla. every year. This to me is simply not being prepared. As for Phil, he's ok. He needs better personnel around him, if he wishes to continue to win the important games (Fla. for sure).

I agree 100% and has been my complaint all along.

I like Phil, too. Great man. He's made some fantastic contributions to UT football. But he's not bigger than the program. UT football stands above it's many fine coaches.

But I think you HAVE to be concerned when the program had a losing season in '05 followed by two consecutive years of at least 4 losses. UT football is, or certainly should be, better than that.

The way this year finished was promising, and with 17 starters (I think?) coming back, I have high hopes for '08. I'm in a wait-and-see mode now. If we lose 4 or more games again in 08 then I won't have any doubts about arguing for change.

I'm a fulmer fan, but I don't believe in letting any coach choose when they leave.

I suppose for some of the younger fans, I would include myself in this category even though I've been an alum for a few years now, Fulmer is a bit of Tennessee football. I've only seen two head coaches since I've been alive, Majors and Fulmer, and Fulmer was coaching us when we won the National Title. I wasn't around during our national title drought, and I hope we get another (or 2 or 3 or..) in my lifetime. I'm willing to let Fulmer try and continue to improve off the 5-6 season for about 3-4 more years. That gives him a chance to work with players like Berry, Jones, Rogan, ect. After their class is gone, if we still have nothing to show for it he probably needs to move on.

When his former players stood up for him. I quit bashing him.. What do I know that they dont.. Exactly. Fulmer has the respect of some very knowledgable people in the game and he deserves mine.. so here it is.

He's a good person. His past and present players are going to stick up for him. Question is not his heart. It's his declining accomplishments over the past nine years.

Why throw something out here that you know will incite response and not stick around to defend/explain your position?

btw…I edited your omission (above)

So, a small percentage of his former players take up for him and that gives him tenure. Interesting.
