I will come out and say it

I will say this about Tee Martin.

I would not wish this place on him. If he loses a couple games a good portion of the fan base will hate him. No different than Fulmer. No different than Majors. No different than Warlick.

Throw race into that mix...well...

Tee Martin and Al Wilson and many others won a NC here. They don't owe us anything else, we, on the other hand, owe them much.

I know those are UT people, but that could be said for any head coach thats hired, if they don't come in here and win right away many fans aren't going to be happy

I don't think it is overt racism, but Currie mentioned that this search would be through their "connections" and people they know. I think it is a two degrees of separation thing, and there are not nearly as many available black coaches who are known by Currie/Haslam's friends. This is all one big buddy movie including "pranking their fans" with leaks/plane routes". In the end, they'll add another "buddy"who they can have a drink with rather than hire the best coach available to lead the program on and off the field by evaluating merit. This is why the fans are so angry. We want two different things.

Final Scene: Picture Currie, Haslam, and the new UT coach sitting at a bar having drinks. Who do you think that they would be most comfortable having a drink with? Brohm, Doreen, Tee, Taggert, Sumlin?

Kevin Sumlin: 51-26 (25-23) at Texas A&M in the SEC West

Dave Doeran: 33-30 (15-25) at NC State in the ACC Atlantic

Somebody give me a reason, other than sheer incompetence, why you interview Doeran over Sumlin?

Throw Mullen in the mix as well.

69-46 (33-39)

Granted, he didn't have the resources of Sumlin and has the ring from the Tebow days but I don't understand Sumlin not being considered as well.

Unless Sumlin is zeroed in on AZ ST and has told them such.

No contact with Tee Martin, an alumnus who reportedly wants the job.

No contact with Willie Taggart, who is wanting to come back to the South.

No contact with Kevin Sumlin, who while just fired, has had a winning season every year in the toughest divison in football.

Not only were these coaches not hired (assuming Dave Doeren takes the job), they were not even contacted or mentioned to be looked at by the UT AD.

They are all black. Not one mention or leak of a black candidate to Tennessee by an reputable media source. Despite all three candidates gaining support by the fan base.

I find it incredily suspicious that all three potential options are black and better candidates than Doeren. Yet not one got even a look.

Most people that know my posting history will understand I am not a race baiter or throw comments like these lightly. But I think it deserves to be talked about.

Sumlin can’t put down the bottle, Tee is not ready, Taggart is the only viable option. Kiffin is still the best available by far, and there are others better than those three. But those three are better options than Doereen I will say

This is a silly thread. A few good white coaches not contacted either. This isn't a race issue, it's a "I don't know how to hire a solid football coach" issue.

How on earth do you jump to NC State when you have a winning SEC coach in Sumlin? The hypocrisy of this school! They fire incompetent coaches when they themselves are very incompetent.

Maybe we could accuse Currie of being racist to get him fired.

There are 2 things that always get public figures fired.

1. Sexual Assault
2. Racism

We got Schiano with #1
We could get Currie with #2

Just saying...

I really hope you are just joking.

If not, dumbest thing I’ve ever read on here and that is saying a lot. You do realize how damaging that would be to Tennessee and to recruiting? It would be giving kids away to 119 other HCs.

Call the University and sound outraged.

Tell them its unacceptable that Currie is identifying the coaches he interviews based on race.

Throw in a couple "This is not who we are" and "these aren't our core values"

This works!
Ask the former Potus

Men, do what you gotta do!

It's a curious theory, no doubt.

I would be interested to see if anything similar happened in 2013 and 2010. Hard to take anything concrete away from a single occurrence, but patterns tell the tale.

I can't remember if we targeted any black coaches in either of those searches. Maybe somebody else does.

Not defending anyone but the first person mentioned for the job was Kacy Rodgers. I am not sure if there was ever any real interest or if an interview was conducted. I think Taggart or Sumlin would be solid hires. Tee lacks experience but if had someone to help mentor him on the staff, that could work. He at least deserves an interview.

Y'all need to ask Jimmy and Peyton why? They're not going for best candidates, but candidates no one else wants.

Kacy said that he was interested.

Tee would be a great hire IF we as a fan base will be patient and allow him time to develop as a head coach...

Maybe hire Tee and assign Phil to be his mentor...

I usually don't comment on these types of post because I feel it is just race baiting. However, I believe you are spot on with this comment. Currie, Haslam, or both do not want a black coach. The above mentioned coaches should have been contacted WAY before Doeren!

They are getting freakin Herm Edwards probably. And we won't even look at any of those coaches. Sumlin would be way better than a DD 2.0.

You may not be a race baiter but the fact you would post your speculation without any corroboration would indicate otherwise.

Got the feeling that the Administration and AD are trolling the Fanbase....

It Backfired and continues to do so.

If there is a Booster Movement within the ranks is real...then pressure needs to continue.
If it is not we have a problem.

All the coaches are good but too much information all over the place....

Coaches are fire for Lack of institutional Control shouldn't the Adminstration and the AD be held to the same standard...

It is hard to disagree with this. I would take Sumlin or Taggart TODAY. I feel Tee needs more experience but at this point it seems like he would be someone to unite the base. Really sounds like Boosters have a racial influence over the search.

We went hard after Charlie Strong, and he backed out. Different AD though.

He says it is something "to be talked about" because the pattern is "suspicious". I am pretty sure that this will not even get him in the door of the race baiting society. Saying we need to have a conversation to avoid an issue hurting the program is a very normal thing to do on a discussion board.

Tee isn’t ready to be HC yet and would be like Ray Goff for UGA in the early 90s. Ga Southern didn’t even call him back for a second interview. He probably needs a job like that to start, it honestly would be unfair to him to start at a fish bowl SEC job. He could cut his teeth at a smaller place and get his 1st year HC mistakes out of the way instead of on a national stage. JMHO

Absolutely, in a perfect world UT would of hired a competent coach with a winning track record and no baggage. Unfortunately, though, here we are about to hire a coach with a worse win-loss record then Butch Jones, and who his own fan base is hoping to fire. So I would take the shot at Tee over a guy we know will be a failure here.
