I was wrong.

Kiffin is a pos but he is a great offensive playcaller. Kiffin didn't have the injuries that dooley has had to deal with but he did come within an eyelash of beating a national champ bama team. To be fair though dooley almost took down a very good lsu team last year.

Looks like you might be the attention whore.

If you watched our team or USC under Kiffin and can't see that they are/were better prepared, you need to watch more football.

the same can be said of you chowder head...go back and look at the players Kiffin had vs those Dooley is playing right now.....let's make it easy for you...at RB Hardesty vs Poole....no comparison...wr Moore and Jones and Hancock...better than Rogers and everyone else....Eric Berry and janzen Jackson were in the secondary and Rico McCoy was at LB....throw in Dan Williams and Chris Walker on the Dline and the argument is over without even discussing the QB situation which as bad as it is was better with Crompton than it is with Worley....so now why don't you go watch more football without sniffing glue beforehand

I was definitely one of those who felt that way. I was able to make it to three games that year as well and felt the same excitement.

It's hard to deny he brought some excitement and life back to the program. I also loved the recruits he was bringing. Doesn't change the fact that alot of those recruits are no longer here. Also doesn't change the fact that Kiffin was in a different situation than the one Dooley is in this year. How much worse Does Kiffin's year look if we lose EB, Montario Hardesty, and (gulp) Jonathan Crompton?

This is a great post and shows what has been my disappointment..its not the losing..its the fact we are not getting better..for example look at this post..

Will anyone deny that Crompton didnt improve leaps and bounds under Kiffin?

Hardesty went from a 271 yd rusher his jr year to over 1300 his senior yr..5 times more output..was this another instance of coaching up?

As for Eric Berry..didnt we basically lose him from his position..wasnt he replaced by a true freshman recruited by Kiffin? JJ

Did anyone on this board expect Hardesty and Crompton to play like they did? did they get really good overnight or was it possibly the coaches working with them? if they played like they had they yr before we have a losing record for sure..

Im for the Vols but I hoped we would see more progess than we did this yr ..that's all..Go Vols!!

Dooley has beaten a bunch of **** teams. Period. Don't get it twisted.

He hasn't beaten anyone nearly as good as Georgia, South Carolina, @Notre Dame

He has been competitive once against a good team, and he lost that one all by himself.

wrong again Johnny.....in addition to LSU there was the NC game.....

Kiff kept Poole's ass on the bench as well....He knew that he wasn't going to get it done...with that said there's no denying that Kiff had more to work with

many thought Hardesty could if he stayed healthy. That was always the issue.

Where is JJ now?

call me when Dooley gets outcoached by Houston Nutt

Here is what happens when you say Kiffin is better, somebody pulls out the regular "Ole Miss destroyed TN"

I also enjoyed beating Georgia and SC that same year.

I don't think the OP is saying he likes Kiffin, he says Kiffin is a better game planner and coach...so far. But that being said we can do better then Kiffin or Dooley. Especially after Dooley pulls 3 years in a row of top 10-15 classes more coaches will want to come here...Go Vols.

He didn't lose anything. He slid over to SS and a lot of times played like an OLB because he was so good in run support and we were so thin at LB.

if you want to say he was a better play caller then fine. If you're talking about being a complete coach then he was missing many key elements that go into that which Dooley does possess

UCLA called. They want into this analogy too.

being objective Ole Miss did destroy UT, but the Vols were banged up at the time and ended up playing a bunch of scrubs on D aganist KY and Vandy

Lane Kiffin is a better coach than Derek Dooley.

After watching several USC games this year, I can say this with confidence.

Now, I'm not saying Lane Kiffin didn't make his mistakes at UT. I think his approach to the job was all wrong. That said, watching both teams, it's painfully obvious who the better coached team is. And it's really not close.
You could argue, if you took away Barkley and Woods, they would be looking a lot more like us. You could be right, but I highly doubt it. USC is disciplined, aggressive, and all-around well coached. It hurts me as much as you, trust me. :cray: If Barkley stays, USC will play for the BCSMNC next year.

Mods delete if this is in violation of rules.

ive never wanted to wip a drunk so bad....u are wrong

I did forget how banged up TN was in 09 when they faced Vandy and UK. UCLA is a good one too, TN was fully loaded then. By far worse loss for Kiffin, just should have run screens and run the ball and TN would have won. Ole Miss was pretty good that year too. I think Kiffin being a good situational play caller is what makes him seem like a better coach and he may be. I understand what you mean, Dooley is a better manager. Not game manager, but a better organization manager.

USC is loaded with top-level talent and you think this is a valid comparison? And I was hoping the hangovers would be gone by now

Throw the Flag--invalid comparison. No comparison in the talent Kiffin inherited at USC and what Dooley inherited, not to mention all those Kiffin recruits that didn't work out. The lack of a running game has got to be eating Dooley up. All the coaches say "execution" is the problem and I'm sure it is but it also has something to do with having juniors/seniors vs freshmen/sophs and 1/2 yrs experience vs 3/4 years experience, not counting 5th year redshirts. If Bray comes back and is well then we have a valid chance against Vandy, if not, it may be a very long off-season. Vandy has been playing really good last 5-6 games--much better than the Vandy teams of old.

I guess it depends on what kind of coach you're talking about. Is Kiffin a better position coach? Yes. Is Kiffin a better OC? Again, yes. Is he a better head coach? That's where you lose me. Kiffin had drawn the ire of the NCAA. If USC wasn't in trouble already, he'd probably still be pushing that envelope, and it's only a matter of time before the NCAA catches him with his hands in the cookie jar. Seeing that the head coach steers the ship, I wouldn't want him back at UT because he's eventually going to run aground. I trust Dooley much more. Now, I agree that Dooley needs to start winning, but I don't want to win Kiffin's way. If Kiffin had stayed. maybe we would be winning more now, but then again, we could also be forfeiting seasons for his playing wild and loose with the rules.

My only problem with the staff, atm, is Chaney. The lack of a run game has caused me to lose trust in his offense. It's obvious he emphasized the passing game and I just think in the SEC you have to have a more balanced attack. The passing game with a healthy Bray and Hunter is our strength, but you still have to run the ball in this conference.

As for USC playing in the BCSNCG next year, are they off probation after this year? I thought their bowl ban was a little longer, but maybe I'm wrong. Sooner or later that scholly reduction has to set in too. Anyway, I hope you're wrong because I want Kiffin to fail. I hope he falls off the map of coaching. He really is an arrogant prick.

Why do people make up this losing seasons and being on probation crap if Kiffin was here? If I'm correct all he did was commit secondary violations which the NCAA deemed not serious. He pushed the envelope like great recruiters do. I would take a couple secondaries if it meant top 3 SEC classes versus 6 or 7 like DD.

Hostess-gate was not made up. If the NCAA could have proven anything, we would have been in major trouble. Just goes to show Kiffin and Co. knew how to cover their tracks, but even the best get caught. The NCAA has a serious mad on for him. If they ever get him by the shorthairs they will be jumping for joy.
