I was wrong about Pruitt

Right now it looks like Pruitt coaches hard in the games that mean a lot to him personally. Growing up a Bammer he hated Auburn and showed it last year. In Pruitt’s eyes tonight’s game was an audition of sorts to replace Saban after he retires.

If he had coached with 75% of this desire against Ga State and BYU then we are sitting at 4-3 instead of 2-5.

After getting our asses handed to us the last 2 games last year, there is no excuse for us not being prepared for the start of this season.
We were not prepared and that was evident.

Also, sticking with JG as long as he did while not having backups better prepared is inexcusable as well.

That being said, I hope he has learned his lesson and has us better prepared for ALL games.

I do think he is figuring things out, but only time will tell.........

After the first two games, I was ready to run Pruitt out of Knoxville on a rail. Now I'm at least on the fence. The team has definitely improved. They had a legit chance to win the game tonight, on the road against the #1 team in the country, as a 34.5 point underdog. (that being said, that legit chance doesn't happen if Tua doesn't get hurt.) I want to see UT go 4-1 over the last 5 and make a bowl game. I don't think that's an unreasonable ask. Mizzou just lost to Vandy. South Carolina is average. Kentucky and Vandy are below average. UAB is 6-1 and they wouldn't be an easy out but who have they played? If Pruitt can get to 6-6 and a bowl, I'm a believer.

Also played most of the game without Tua. Never seen so many people excited after a 22 point loss and a 2-5 team. Fan base is so beat down, they consider that a win
I don’t consider this a win, not by a long shot. However a couple of breaks (JG fumble; taylor mot having penalty etc) and this could have been a different narrative. No denying Bama has a great team.
We say here : “Kentucky gonna Kentucky “; “Vandy gonna Vandy”:::: well- Tennessee Tennessee”d on JG fumble. Expected it. But you have to admit improvement occurring. It’s a long way to the top if you want to rock and roll - Bon Scott

Putting Shrout in to go win you the game makes just as little sense. They were one play away from being down 8 with plenty of time. No need to throw the game away by forcing Shrout in there. Wildcat wasnt working.
Shrout on the almost long pass completion showed he is better now than JG has ever been.

I think Pruitt got a good lesson tonight on how the “rules” work when you don’t wear Crimson and white. You could see it. You could literally look at him in his eyes and tell he woke up to that fact tonight.

Pruitt went a long way to win me back over tonight. I think the guys have bought in finally. I think PRUITT has bought in finally...if that makes any sense. Weinke even was getting fired up. This team has juice. I’m seeing them play harder than I’ve seen them play since Oklahoma 2015 right now. That’s the last time I remember them playing like this. Hopefully Maurer isn’t hurt too bad. JG is done for sure and JT looks lost as hell out there.

Also played most of the game without Brian Maurer. So both teams’ starting QBs looked good and then both teams played without them for most of the game.

And excited isn’t the right word. But now there is now a glimmer of hope. The 22 point loss was mainly due to the 14 point swing on the 4th down fumble return. One play. One incredibly stupid play. But if you don’t see the improvement in this team, then you’re not looking. A team that lost to a Georgia freaking State at home being a yard away from a one score game late in the 4th quarter against #1 Alabama, on the road, while playing Jarrett Guarantano most of the time- that’s progress.

Let’s just hope it translates to wins, starting next week.

We see improvement overall as a team. Nobody expected us to play them at the LOS as good as we did we are improving. If you are just looking at wins and losses I guess you can moan and groan. But people that watch football can tell we are getting better. But whine on brother, whine on. GBO!!!!

I’ve been one of the biggest critics of Pruitt, but it’s clear now that the struggles thus far in his tenure were due to youth, the transition to a new system, and atrocious decisions from JG.

This team has vastly improved and is competing. Pruitt is the right guy and as long as he can keep getting solid players he will turn this around.
Come on in, the water's fine

Lights are coming on all over Volnation as well as with the Vols. I don't doubt yours will come on very soon.
The outcome is not going to be as in previous years. This team is catching on. In case you may have missed it the defense played a lot behind Alabama's line of scrimmage last night. D lineman were playing their gaps and also pushing the Bama line backwards. That's right BACKWARDS. Much improvement that is going to garner a lot of attention from recruits and maybe a few calls from some we haven't heard from.
