I was thinking today how hard it is to be a Vols fan

I have honestly thought this myself and what I can come up with is that it is good being a fan. Yeah we have our ups and downs but it's exciting! Lika roller coaster

It can be hard to watch game play but is not hard to be a UT fan. It started when in HS I watched Condredge face off against Bert Jones. It was cemented upon my first step on campus and has been refreshed each time I am able to visit my alma mater.

So, what you're saying is that we need to fire Dooley and hire Gruden? I couldn't agree more! Great post!

When my screen name was KiFFiNOMiCS...I thought we had hired the right ex-Raiders head coach....I was way wrong on that one. So now we need to hire the one that actually was a winner there in Oakland. What do you think John Madden is doing now?

Any folks still wearing orange and white are true vol fans. Just keep the faith, we will be back on top one day!

Well said! Its hard here in N.O. with all these Tiger fans, but I'll still wear my orange proudly!!

V,B!!!

I know what ya mean. I'm in Gulfport and hate seeing all the LSU colors floating around everywhere around here... but whenever I bleed, Southern Mississippi gets a big splash of Big Orange! Go Vols!!! ><>

It's not a whole lot easier where I am. We're overrun with UGA fans and Bammers and Gators. Gross.

My younger brother is a UGA fan. I think Mom said the doctor dropped him on his head shortly after he was born. He has been rubbing it in hard since Dooley came to UT. But, I cant be too hard on him, he just retired from the USAF after 27 and a half years. and is working at Little Debbie in Collegedale. I love my brother, but he just ain't right...

I'm ALWAYS a Vol fan regardless of what happens. We've had our up and down seasons. Been there over the years. It gets tough, I know. I've stayed loyal to two teams in sports over the years-Vols and Braves. I've only changed allegiance to NFL teams over the years-Redskins and Colts. Always liked the Colts. Will always be a "Peyton Manning" fan regardless of where he plays. Have always supported the Lady Vols. Tough to see the "best" coach in ladies basketball leave the program as HC. The Lady Vols are not getting respect this year in the SEC. Look for a top 2 finish at worst. Only pre-season ranked 4th.

I think you are either a Vol fan and fall and rise with then together in unison or you don't. I have worn my UT shirt after losses sometimes just to make sure people know where I stand. I guess I have been a Vol fan for so long thanks too my dad,and I passed it on to my boys, it's never hard to be a devoted fan win or lose. The thing is when they do rise back up to the top the ride will be all the sweeter.

Where I live it's not hard to be a Vols fan at all. I wear my TN orange shirts all the time & never get a negative yell around here in Jackson. Now, if I lived in Memphis, that would be a different story. All they know there is "Go Tigers go"....losers.

heck, i have to restrain myself from beating up a vol fan i know. they say they are all vol but gave us no chance at bama and talk about bama as a dynasty, it makes me want to punch them and knock their teeth out. it's not easy being a vol fan especially the last 5 years.

If you're wanting to beat someone up over this, maybe it's time you stopped watching, because that type of behavior is idiotic.

I believe at this point, anyone who claims to be a Vol fan is certainly a true fan. I don't think anyone wants to jump on this bandwagon.

Now those who don't root for the men's basketball team know how the basketball fans felt for years.

It takes heart pride and dedication and the will to fight and stay alive. That's what it takes to be a vol fan, only the strong survives! Only cowards tuck tail and run like a lil ***** when times get hard!! You know what? **** you I don't need you me and the rest of the real fans got this **** on lock!! Volly keep the faith girlfriend we got this!!

Just on cruise control til the real Volunteers come back. Losing has made me numb to the pain and either I'm getting old or apathetic.

What makes you think Gruden will be any better than Dooley?
He has no winning record in the NFL unless your counting the Superbowl which was with Dungys team, not his and then he loses again and again until he's fired.
The man has never coached College football. This is about as moronic as it gets. Fans like you make us a laughing stock. We better find some players that want to play for Tennessee no matter who coaches, we expected a lot this season but tell me the truth why? We have two receivers and a sometimes QB that decides to quit in some games and its all blamed on the coach. Oh and unless you have 5-7 million dollars to play off the present and then money to pay a new coach plus keep paying Phil and Pearl just sit down and hang on.

Post less.

It's not for the faint of heart. That's for damn sure.

But it is so worth it. You can't love something as hard as most of us love the Vols and expect an easy road.

Bickering, and fighting, and all the crap that comes with the passion ... you just have to be willing to take it. Cause it's worth it.

There are programs across the country who will never ever reach the level of fan passion that we have at Tennessee. It makes us crazy, happy, stupid, pissed, excited, giddy, and every other emotion you can have when you are passionate about something.

I don't know what the outcome is gonna be with the coaching situation. But I do know I'd rather be on this roller coaster with you nuts than anywhere else.

Go Vols!!

I don't find it hard to be a Vol fan at all even living in enemy territory of crimsonville. I grew up in Tennessee and listened to the Ward called Saturday games on the radio when we were not very good during Majors first few years. I want to win every game like everyone else, but whether we win or lose, it has no bearing on my Big Orange love. GBO VFL
