... for daring to suggest that Butch Jones was in over his head & that making a change for Lane Kiffin was a better option. I made that statement thinking we would still be Vandy, but now that we have not, I've never been more sure that Jones cannot, nor should, lead this team going forward.

It was made perfectly clear to me last week how much this fan base still hates Kiffin. I get it. I truly do. But I cannot imagine the scenario where keeping Butch versus hiring Kiffin works out better. Butch, after tonight, & whether you want to admit it or not, is a dead man walking. Recruiting had already tapered off, & now will significantly do so; and his in game coaching decisions are frankly unacceptable.

At this point, does anyone believe he can lead this team going forward to championships? And if you do, do any of you believe Kiffin goes for it on fourth down when a field goal extends the game?

I get it. You hate Kiffin. I hated his guts when he left. But I do not see a scenario, nor a coach, other than he that we could hire & utilize the talent is still exists on this team and move forward. Sure we can keep Butch, but why? It is extending the inevitable.

Les Miles is not the answer. And I don't think we're going to be in the conversation for any other top tier coach. So I ask you, after tonight, do you think Kiffin is still not a viable option?

Cut is the answer as HC. Chavis as DC and Jim Bob Cooter as OC being groomed for HC in 2-3 years.

Who will cover the $10 million.

I do not. He left the program after 1 year...literally weeks before NSD.

He tried to get all our players to stop going to class after he left.

His one recruiting class was littered with busts and criminals.

He was a one man highlight show with secondary NCAA violations.

He was given the keys to a Caddy at USC and couldn't drive it.

He made Jonathan Crompton look like a legitimate quarterback.

He was one bad kicker away from beating Alabama.

He had a winning record his first year.

He was significantly handcuffed at USC by the NCAA sanctions.

He has coached multiple first year starting quarterbacks to national championships at Alabama

He is now coached for several years one of the greatest coaches in the modern era.

But Butch is still your guy?

The $ is on the sidelines. The next AD is the key. Get the $ on the same page. Be willing to give the next guy the control he wants and you will find the right guy and the $ will cover it.

Until then you are stuck with the Jones types that are looking for a better payday.

Did I say anything about Butch? If you're looking for a sleazeball and probation, sign him up. He did us good the first go round.

Moot point anyway, Butch is back next year

It's not about hating Kiffin or being butthurt about his departure.

Kiffin is not a viable option because he will always be an NCAA violation risk (it's just how he operates), he'd likely take us back to a ThugU rep, and he'll never see Tennessee as anything more than a stepping stone job and we desperately need stability.

It's not about a comparison to Butch either. If the new AD decides to get rid of Butch, Kiffin would still be a terrible hire.

Just sounds pathetic. Like a girl leaving her current loser boyfriend for her high school loser boyfriend. There are other fish in the sea.

Yep, no way a new AD makes that hire

That's the sad part, there really aren't. That's why we will get Coach Cliché again next year unless we do something bold.

Butch definitely isn't the answer but if all the other options why Lane kiffin? He's literally the last person on earth I'd ever want to see return. And he was a disaster as a head coach.
There are good canidates out there. A guy like major applewhite or Kyle whittingham would be huge upgrades. And I honestly believe Justin Fuentes is going to be a huge success. He'd probably leave va tech for the right situation and money.

I really don't understand this line of thinking. Do you realize how many good coaches are out there that would come to UT if we played it right?

Chip Kelly (rumored to want back in college football anyways. Make him a big offer and beat everyone else to the punch)

Dan Mullen (look what he has done with Miss St playing in the West every year. He would probably love the opportunity to rise to the top in the east)

Art Briles (there would be some media backlash, but ultimately everyone would get on board once the wins started rolling in)

PJ Fleck (literally has Western Michigan undefeated)

Brent Veneables (has Clemson's defense in the top 10 every year)

Chad Morris (recruits guys like Deshaun Watson, Sammy Watkins and is the reason Clemson has the offense they have today)

Butch needs to go. But I never want sleazebag Kiffin associated with our university again. There are many pther directions we can go that would be an improvement from where we are now.

All more appealing than Coach Cliche except for Fleck...little gun shy on those mid major head coaches.

Kiffen come back and get us to the SECCG then leave for the Browns. Either ride another year with Butch or go with a VFL.

Someone said Les Miles and that made me think of Spurrier. Which is exactly opposite to VFL, maybe as OC.

Go Vols!

An successful NFL OC is not leaving for a coordinator job in college.

College coaching is a more demanding job.

Whiting ham would be phenomenal. It he's never head east, he's been a west guy all his career.

Urban Meyer should be our target. PROVEN HC. Successful wherever he has been.
NCs at UF. Has Ohio St. in the playoff hunt just about every year. HAS BEATEN SABAN!
Other possible candidates. Gary Peterson and Paul Johnson at Georgia Tech. Proven HCs
who have been successful everywhere they have coached.
Will not happen because of the huge Butch payoff unless a lot of wealth alumni pony
up some big bucks.
