Chavis is still running the preven D down at LSU. We all saw what he was able to do with it when he had the best talent possible. LSU is making it work simply because he has the BEST D (athletes) POSSIBLE. In years where he doesn't have those athletes, they can't win the big game ... see last year's LSU squad and the countless other UT defenses he failed to coach to potential while he was here.:birgits_giggle:

Is there a good defense out there that is doing it without talent, just all coaching? We sure are not. I guess LSU would really be good if they had a good defensive coordinator.

I am not yet sold on Wilcox but our defense played well last night - the TD's were a special teams/snap breakdown and 1 long play

we just couldnt make enough plays on offense to win the game - 20 points is not a bad showing

It's amazing how as soon as Chavis is coaching a defense, they magically become uber-talented and he doesn't deserve any credit for their success.

I didn't say he didn't deserve any credit did I????? Iet me clarify for you. When you give chavis which is a good coach in my opinion much better talent than what he would have at tn right now it becomes alot easier for him. The talent alone can make up for him even putting the players in the wrong play. I know that doesn't happen every play but when it does they atleast have the talent to mask some errors. So yes having the talent definitely helps him and I'm not sure he would do any better than Wilcox is doing with our talent. That's what I'm saying. But yes, I think the chief saved alot of games for fulmer when he had some talent and he is a good guy (the time I met him) and a good coach. He just has athletes everywhere now and a gambler as a head coach. I think he's in a much better situation than he would be in if he were still here at TN. Hope that clarified your concerns.
