and realize that he inherited an absolute dumpster fire from the Dooley years. However, the reality is this team is not ahead of schedule right now. UT is 5-2 this year with a lucky win over App. State, a miracle win over an average at best UGA team, an uninspiring win over Ohio, and an embarrassing loss to Alabama.

I am unfortunately convinced now more than ever that CBJ is a 9-10 win type of coach, who can stabilize a program and keep you out of NCAA trouble, but you will never win an NC with him at the helm.

I hope I'm wrong and certainly I'm not ready to jump ship on CBJ yet, but someone needs to convince me that he can do what's necessary to win a national title.

Hiring Debord has told me he's more committed to a losing scheme than to changing what he does to bring in the best.

He's also a Kelly slip, a 4th and 16, and an incomplete pass from having an 11 win season.

When will people realize that luck (unless you're a top three program) is always a factor in football?

Exactly I think he's a mark richt type coach that will get you 9-10 wins a season but never get over the hump. I sure hope I'm wrong I like butch jones but it's looking more and more like this is the reality

Let's be honest for a second, we will get to 10 wins this year. Most likely 11 wins and icing on cake would be 12-2.

However, the barometer of Butch's quality will be measured by the Florida game next year.

If we go 10-12 wins and lose that game next year, I think the writing will be on the wall. Especially with a new AD coming in.

Butch only WINS games that he is SUPPOSED to win and when he has superior talent over the other team............check his history..........

If you said before the season this team will finish 10-2, beat UF and UGA and make the SEC title game,95% of the fans would've said Yep, I'll take it!

That is all still within reach. This team is hurting and injured unlike any UT team I can ever remember, but if they can hold things together and heal up some, I would welcome a second chance at an excellent Bama squad in the SECCG.

Everyone did say that. Now they are shocked.

There's only one Saban.
The rest will will make occasional runs.

I think he has to wake up to the fact that he has far from the best coaches in America on offense other than Robert Gillespie make changes accordingly. If he falls into the same loyalty trap as Fulmer, then he has hit his ceiling.

Can you name me a coach that consistently beat teams that have more talent?

And even when he has the superior talent he never wins big, he does just enough to pull out the W

Good point. Where are UT's blowout wins over teams with inferior talent? VA Tech is closest one I can remember and that was gift wrapped for CBJ. Ohio and App State are good examples of him just doing enough to win.

Are you Kidding?
I hate that guy with an undying passion but he will be top 3-5 every year till he retires
He left LSU for the NFL when the NCAA gauntlet was about to come down on him. Why was he such a failure in the NFL if he is so great? Right, he'll be top 3-5 every year because he cheats, has the SEC office and officials in his back pocket......

Because he chose Culpepper over Drew Brees in Miami. Had he gone with brees, Saban likely had a Lombardi Trophy or two in Miami now.

What sucks is that if Rich Rod takes the Bama job like he's supposed to, Saban stays at Miami and probably takes over Tennessee in 2008.

Recruiting is part of the college game. He's good at it. I believe he's cheating too but they're not going to do anything about it.
At some point he'll retire and Bama will come back to earth.

Let's just hope Saban retires in the near future and their success goes with him.

I still for the life of me cannot figure out why he is so successful. He is a miserable, sawed off little SOB, who I cannot imagine connecting very well with 16-18 year-old kids. You know they are cheating, have to be.
