I want a marquee bowl game to see where we are

Even if it's just going next door to North Carolina for the Belk Bowl, I think the administration prefers that to a bowl in Nashville or Memphis. So Florida (Citrus, Outback), Texas (Texas) or North Carolina (Belk) seem most likely.

otherwise, getting one of the upper-half ACC schools (FSU, UNC, Pitt, Duke) in the Belk Bowl seems next best.

Go Vols!

I would really like to avenge the loss to UNC. That one stung, would like to let them know exactly where they stand in the grand scheme of football.

Didn't want to start a new thread but as a Vol in Atlanta this is very exciting -

2016 - SEC Championship

2017 - Chick-Fil-A Kickoff
SEC Championship

2018 - SEC Championship
College Football Playoff
College Football National Championship

Let's go get those Georgia recruits and make Atlanta a second home for the Vols.

We aren't going to get a big game this year, so I'd like to see Memphis vs. Tennessee in the Liberty Bowl. :mf_surrender:

my guess as of today....

alabama/lsu winner to the playoff
alabama/lsu loser to what was a BCS level bowl.
florida to the citrus
ole miss to the outback
tennessee to the belk
texas a&m to the music city
georgia to the tax slayer
mississippi state to the liberty

others that qualify get the rest

I think the way we travel, we will pull a bigger bowl game than our four losses would ordinarily dictate.

I'm really hoping for a marquee match-up. I want some hype to the bowl season. And most importantly, I want to see where we really are in relation to our 2016 goals.

Really hoping we can get either Michigan, Florida State, or USCwest or a Top PAC-12 draw. A Duke or Penn State match-up has some intrigue but I want a bigger name on the national stage at this time.

Bowl games MATTER.

Boca Vol says that bowl games dont really matter.

I want FSU they are as talented as anyone in the country and we would have to play our ass of to beat them, and we can do it.

Pertaining to the following season, they don't. Each season is different from the last or next. That's just common logic.

I would suggest getting 15 extra practices for returning players and EEs in a big game environment pertains to the following season.

With an 8-4 record, we'd play a 6th place team in either the Big 10, Big 12 or pAC 12 or ACC. What's the possibility of playing in the Liberty Bowl, or Peach Bowl if we don't get the Outback? I believe that teams that would be in the Outback Bowl won't have more than 3 losses. Liberty Bowl in Memphis and Peach Bowl Atlanta (both good drawing areas).

You would think that would be the case...and every coach would say it's so but it really isn't the case. You can go back 30 years of UT football and more often than not a bowl win (or appearance) hasn't led to improved results the following season. Here's a few:

85
87
90...debatable
91
93
95
98...tough to improve on
99
01
04
07
09

Some of these from the 90s and early 00s you can debate because the teams were good and the difference was so slim. But the proof is that it really has no bearing as each team is different.

My left-brain says I want the Belk Bowl here in Charlotte so I can go and watch some sweet, sweet revenge on UNC.

My right-brain wants the Citrus Bowl/Taxslayer Bowl against Penn State so we can beat them like a trailer trash wh***.

I think a lot of that is reflective on Majors and Fulmer. Majors wasn't always the best recruiter. And Fulmer was notorious for laying the occasional egg after winning the NC in 1998. 1999 we are in a BCS game. 2000 we get shellacked by K-State in the Cotton Bowl. 2001, many argue was one of our best teams during Fulmer's tenure. Should have had another shot at a NC. 2002, preseason #3 ends up with an 8-5 season. 2004 in the SEC championship game, gives arguably the best team in the nation a run for their money and destroys A&M in a glorified home game. 2005 goes 5-6 and let's Vandy break our 22 game winning streak against them. 2007 SEC Championship game where we had the eventual national champion LSU beat, finishes ranked #12 in the BCS. 2008 goes 5-7 and Fulmer lost his job. Hard to say a lot about 2009 or 2010 due to what went down with Kiffin leaving and getting the worst coach in UTs 119 year history. I still say extra practices and big game exposure can only lead to faster player development than playing a lesser opponent in a fish, chips, and insurance bowl.
