I'm referring back to the TO with 1:30 left on the clock. To be honest, i love the new trend of calling a TO seconds before a kicker kicks the ball, but, when the clock is stopped, with time to do something, you don't blow a TO!! What was he thinking? Yes, i'm in the minority for those who like to do this, but even i know this was NOT the right time to do it... And on a side not, IF, and thats a big if, we wing the SECCG, how bad will we be embarrassed in the Sugar bowl?? I'm not gonna be looking forward to it.. :hmm:

I don't like it at all. If you're doing to do it, at least make sure you do it well before the ball is snapped.

I'll agree, I didn't like the attempt to "freeze" the kicker in that situation. However, IF we manage to win the SECCG I've got to feel like these kids will believe they can win the bowl game. Even if it is the Sugar bowl

Would have seemed like genius had Succop or whoever missed it...

But he didn't. You are right, it wasn't worth it.

Speaking of headsets, why was it not an unsportsmanlike conduct flag when Spurrier threw his headset out on the field?

What a petty criticism. Pressure can obvious affect kicker (note that is actually how SC lost). Let him think about it.

Doesn't always work. But you can't single out one coach for this...it is a common practice at ALL levels of the sport.

If Stevie boy got a penalty every time he threw something down onto the field, his teams would have world records for penalty yardage ever.

Craziness, why not just say I have no faith in my offense being able to score with 1:30 left so we have to ice the kicker.

I don't know, I have never seen one do it with that much time remaining. Obviously that is anecdotal evidence, but so is your post.

Not when the clock is stopped, there is only a minute and a half left in the game and all you are looking at is being a field goal behind. That time out could have been very critical for the ensuing drive by the Vols.

If he misses it your Offense gets guaranteed good field position with no time wasted on the kickoff.

Not that crazy.

The thinking behind "icing the kicker" is that it is all you CAN do, and it won't hurt to use your timeouts anyway. Obviously, that doesn't fit the situation. We had enough time to score afterward, and the timeout would have helped. In fact, it would have definitely helped if you think about the events of the last drive of regulation. We would have had more chances to end the game.

If we saved the time out, maybe Ainge would have had enough time to get sacked again, and we would have been completely out of field goal range.

If, if, if -- this is a petty criticism.
