Yeah. Like another guy I recently locked horns with... it is stupid to make these kinds of ironclad predictions with so little information. In the end the record will be just about the same
The dumpster fire is still burning bright on Philip Fulmer Way nothing has changed
Sorry for the digression, but your comment about a dumpster brought me back to 1975 when I was a Frosh living in Hess Hall. Walked to Strong Hall everyday for B/L/D and passed a dumpster at Massey Hall that someone painted on the outside "Stay Out". Now being a Jersey kid, I said to myself "man, these folks in TN must not be all that smart if they have to tell people to stay out of the dumpsters!"

Pruitt established a culture... that seems to have been toxic and corrupt.
UT self-reported.
The NCAA got involved.
I suspect Fulmer tried to run cover and stalled efforts to get rid of Pruitt in a timely manner.
Coaching search was conducted very late which hurt both the field of potential candidates and ultimately recruiting efforts.
After likely being turned down by a few guys due to the uncertainty around the program, White offered a fairly "safe" Heupel the job. He took it.
Heupel seems to be significantly different from Pruitt or Jones in character. He also seems to be kind of eccentric and almost cultic about the "family" idea.... not necessarily a bad thing but different. He apparently believes that in order to be a good coach you have to be a good family man. Every hire he's made has been praised by multiple people for being good family men. He's openly talked about having guys who "love" each other.
All of this adds up to different expectations and tolerance.
For good or ill, guys have decided or have been told that the new program isn't for them. Some will leave because they don't like where they sit on the depth chart. Some may leave because of academics. Some may just want a new situation. Some may feel the new staff pushes them in ways they don't like.
PS- if you are going to intentionally or unintentionally experience this kind of purge then there could not be a better time. The extra year of eligibility helps keep a "full" roster according to the normal rules even if guys leave.

I am prepared to see a bad season. I am prepared to see UT be better than expected. I believe this is a 6-8 win roster and we will know A LOT about the staff as it plays out.
