I thought OU would be the second best team...

Tulsa already over 500 yards of offense through 3 quarters.

No pressure on Tulsa. Jesus our offensive line is absolutely horrible. No improvement over last year. Looks like our coaches were excited about the hurd/ kamara combo and only focused on the run game all offseason.

OU would lose at least 4 games in the SEC in my opinion. Heck, they may lose 4 playing a Big 12 schedule.

UT would too depending on which teams they played, but if they played the same sec teams we play they might only lose 1 or 2.
Hopefully we only lose 2 if we get some breaks, if not we may lose 4.
Time will tell.
I think we could beat any of them except Bama, but we have enough ?? To lose to any of them on a bad day except vandy.

OU is a 7-9 win football team and people here are pumping them up to contend for a natty and they are basing that off them winning in neyland. But the same ones are saying we arent there yet because we are young and shouldn't win more than 8 games. Contradiction? Anyone?

Quick slants and wr screens should have been called.

Debord and jones should give dobbs green light to audible to quick routes when defense is showing blitz.

Agree 100%. Put the call in and then make the read pre/post snap.... Can't anticipate every blitz when putting in the call.

My observtion of Tulsa is this: Counter the blitzes with the slants, go for the big throws downfield and be aggressive (onside/pooch kick towards end of 1st half). Coaching right there...coaching!

Tulsa also caught Oklahoma after a big win. Neither team exhibits signs of a defensive pulse, just another game of slide-rule football.

With just over 4:00 left, Oklahoma has 731 yards of total offense; they finished with 348 yards against us in double overtime. Mayfield finished our game with 233 yards of total offense and was 19-39 passing for 187 yards, 3 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Against Tulsa, he currently has 570 yards total offense and completed 32-38 for 487 yards and 4 touchdowns, with 83 yards on 12 carries for 2 more touchdowns.

Tulsa's HC is Phillip Montgomery, the OC under Briles while Briles was HC at HS level, Houston and than Baylor. Montgomery is a hell of a coach. Good game. Didn't expect OU to blow past Tulsa. Tulsa also has some very good WR's.

Maybe theres hope he's available for us in a year! Being in Tulsa I plan on watching Montgomery and see how he does.

So, in a sense, you are saying that Tulsa is your equivalent of Bowling Green, another program headed by an Art Briles protégé.

Their WRs better than ours?

I doubt he will give up the Tulsa gig just yet. Being raised south of Tulsa, I had the opportunity to watch them quite a bit in HS in the 70's. I kept following them in the 80's and 90's and then they lost a little of their luster recently. Good/decent coaches have used Tulsa as a stepping stone (Cooper at Ohio State, Dave Rader, Todd Graham, etc). Malzhan was the OC under Graham at Tulsa a few years ago, so one can see that Tulsa has had some coaching, just can't hang on to them. Rader was a QB at Tulsa and he hung around the longest.

It's a sign they are as bad as us. OU that is.

I wouldn't be so fast to react to a game like this as saying one team is as good or bad as the other. Tulsa needs to be given some credit, here. They may play with, and in, many consider "Junior Varsity" league, but they can play.

Too much is given to team on paper and not on the field.

Don't know about that. More than likely to you question, though I would say "yes". He's aggressive, coaches his kids to take on the challenge and goes after it. Don't know that this is Briles per se', but pretty much.

we played this year. Then they played Tulsa. Ouch. Is this a sign of things to come or just Tulsa catching an Oklahoma team after a huge win?

It's that Butch sucks. Good teams NEVER overlook inferior teams. Especially the week following a huge nationally televised game. It just doesn't happen. (again sarcasm)

I sit here looking at Tulsa's scoring drives

4 plays, 80 yds, :50 sec
10 plays 79 yds, 2:46
1 play, 43 yds, :12 sec
11 plays, 93 yds, 3:59
12 plays, 69 yds, 3:59
One FG blocked

I would venture to say that Montgomery is going in, guns blazing to win. OU has it by 2 TD's at the moment with little over 2 min remaining in 4th. O/U for this game was 71 I believe.

No, they are definitely better this year, it's just that last year they were literally one of the bottom five OLs in D1.

So they have improved considerably IMO...which means now they merely suck.

They also had the long pass play called back for off interference. Would have been first and goal around the 5.
