And how brother. I'm not going to knock on the Pac-10 they have some quality programs out there and considering their success in the post season I would rank the conference 3rd in terms of competition level (behind the SEC and Big 12). We do have some "knowns" that work in our favor:
1. Being at home makes a huge difference and expect this team to play with tremendous emotion in front of a sellout crowd. Not only that there isn't a single venue in the Pac-10 that prepares you for an SEC stadium let alone Neyland.
2. We have a talented defense despite being depleted and our linebacker corps are as good as any in the SEC.
3. Poole and Oku can flat out run.
4. Wilcox knows what's coming and that experience is invaluable.
I'm not saying we will win but I would expect this game to be A LOT closer than what the talking heads are saying.
The formation I'd like to see nearly every play Saturday would be a goal line/heavy formation, three tight ends, & our best blocking fullback or another offensive lineman and run it down there throats. Oregon's defensive line is small and quick like the Colts, we have a chance to simply over power them at the point of attack.
My picks the last couple of years haven't been accurate at all, however, I agree with you. I think all these factors play a role. Hopefully, we're right. Go Vols!
I know this seems like a standard piece of conventional wisdom, but in this game, it is completely irrelevant. Tennessee WILL win time of possession. There is no doubt about it. Everybody wins time of possession against Oregon, regardless of the outcome, therefore it is not a meaningful piece of information and certainly is not the key factor in the game.
For example, New Mexico had a 5 minute TOP advantage in the first half of our opener. The score, 59-0 Oregon. I guess dominating time of possession didn't quite put them over the top.
A better goal might be to run as many (or close to as many) offensive plays as Oregon. That might be meaningful and impressive, as it could show UT was able to move the ball as consistently as Oregon...or it might not be all that impressive, as it could just mean that Oregon scored on big plays. So, maybe an even better stat would be to try and average more yards per play than Oregon....in fact, I suspect if Tennessee does this, and turnovers are relatively equal, the Vols would win, so there's your key factor.
So watch Perdue and LaTech tape? Lmao they lose biggest on the prep side. We basically have their playbook on our sidelines while they have only question marks:
Playcalling
Whose the playmaker to isolate?
Weak links on the lines to target.
Coverages
Reads
Etc
Etc
What they do have from Wilcox is that he owned them. D will be nasty for this one. No punches but some spit in an eye, insults to offspring and family hurled, toes stepped on...etc! Posted via VolNation Mobile
