I think we will regret this for a long time!

A 45-day hiatus for gsvol?

One of my shortest ever.
I must be getting old.

What brought you back?

A Honda, (and colder weather, nothing like the home fires amidst chilly winter winds.)

Does good news harken?

Time will tell.

Yes, I said it. I know this has been a point of anger and heated arguments but if you truly believe the best thing for Tennessee Football is for Fulmer to go, you have no idea what you are talking about. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

Let me make my case by starting with his record. 151 wins 52 loses .745%. To put that into context,

Woody Hayes .743
Joe Paterno .749
Bear Bryant .745
Bo Shembeckler .796
Bobby Bowden .752

That is pretty good company if I do say so myself. I know that he has had two losing seasons in the 16 1/2 seasons he has been there but does the 9 double digit wins not matter or the 11 times they have finished with at least 9 wins.

Over his tenure, he has averaged a season record of 9.4 wins 3.25 loses. And for you na sayers that say we are going down hill, it was only last year that we won 10 games last year and 9 the year before.

Listen, I understand that we are not where we want to be but do you know for certain that given the chance, Phil could not get this fixed. Take last year for example. Cut leaves after the season and we lose an NFL caliber QB not to mention one of the best position coaches in Troop (Say what you will but look at the job he did with the WR). Phil goes out on a limb and picks a small school coach. It blows up into his face but it still is one mistake. You all are willing to burn him at the stake for one season where he started out behind the eight ball. Also look at the fact that if Cut had stayed, we would have gotten Pryor and we may have had a few more wins.

All I am trying to say is that between Robert Neyland's era and Fulmer's era, UT was 254 wins 197 loses 21 ties. That is a .538 winning percentage. Compared to Fulmers .745, be careful for what you wish for.

You all say go get the best. Lets look at the history. One of the coaches that was between the two era's was Johnny Majors. Tennessee plucked him right out from Pittsburgh right after a national championship season. How could that go wrong????????????????

I say bring him back and allow him to go get a solid OC that can bring in recruits and spark the offense. Maybe Chip Kelly or Gus Malzhan.

We owe him that.

Well said and well supported with data and logic.

Sadly, however, data and logic get you nowhere with these guys. It's all about their misguided perceptions and conjecture.

.666 in the past 10 years, much worse against key rivals, just blows your whole rant.

Every program goes through rough patches.

And, to be perfectly blunt, most programs would kill for our record over the last 10 years.

It is unfair to cherry pick which seasons of Coach Fulmer's amazing career to use. You have to consider the entire body of work. You can't pick his 7 worse seasons to make a case anymore than you can pick is 7 best. You have to consider the whole thing.

Coach Fulmer is a great head coach and we'll miss him sorely.

Using the last ten years is not cherry-picking. That winning percentage, coupled with no championships, represents fairly the cold, hard facts. You might miss him sorely, but I'm ready to get back to the basics of hard-nosed, disciplined football. Watching Phil Fulmer's teams under-perform the last several years has been painful, and change is the only way I see to rectify it, even though I know there might be some lean times before we get back. But how can any sane, intelligent person watch this year's team and not be mystified as to how horrible a job Fulmer has done. He deserved to be fired for this year alone, irrespective of what transpired before.

We implemented an entirely new offense with an entirely new offensive coordinator and an entirely new quarterback, we made alot of changes. These should be viewed as the expected growing pains associated with those changes.

Yes we did that this year. What is your excuse for the previous 9 years?

And, to be perfectly blunt, most programs would kill for our record over the last 10 years.
That's very true. But...

Most programs aren't the University of Tennessee, one of the 10 winningest college football programs of all time.

Fulmer's last 10 years would have gotten the stadium named after him at Mississippi State, but we have a higher standard than that.

I'm grateful for all he did for our program, the two SEC titles, the national championship in '98, the 11-1, No. 3 season in 1995, the 150+ wins and winning three-quarters of his games, not to mention the 11 wins over Alabama. But the program had gotten stale, and Phil Fulmer did his last great service to the program by resigning before it got ugly.

I hope Fulmer lands another coaching job, if he wants one, and I hope he does great and leads his new team to the national championship game in 2010. I'll root for him every week along the way. They'll be my second-favorite team, whoever they are.

And I hope when he gets there, the Tennessee Vols and their new coach beat him.

And your excuse for the 2005 season, getting blown out last year by both AL and UF, almost loosing to Vandy last year the loss to Penn state in the Citrus Bowl, the embarresing losses two years in a row in the Peach. Not to mention the poor record against top 10 teams over the last 7 years?

We are waiting..... This should be good.

.....

Don't know many programs, except University of Fulmer supporters, that would kill for 0 Conference Championships, 1 BCS Bowl appearance (Lose), wins against lesser opponents (up until this year when even lesser opponents beat us), and consistent spankings at the hand of their biggest rivals.

That 50 we hung on GA, in Athens, kinda ruins the consistent piece of your message

Woot Woot - We beat GA in 2006. Using 2006 as the base:

2006 – FL (L), GA (W), AL (W), LSU (L)
2007 – FL (L), GA (W), AL (L), LSU (L)
2008 – FL (L), GA (L), AU (L), AL (L)

3 wins and 9 loses looks pretty consistent. (And you sure don't want to go back and include 2005)

I don't understand all this slobbering over Phillip Fulmer. He's responsible for matching the worst loss ratio in Vol history! Why should he be afforded another opportunity to give us another losing season especially when there was no indication that anything would be different. Football is a "what have you done for me lately" sport and that's the fact. We gave Fulmer many pats on the back the last 7 years by allowing him to continue coaching losing seasons and by giving him wheel barrows full of money at the same time. And what is this about a Fulmer appreciation day on Saturday when we play Kentucky?!! Don't be absurd! Fulmer seems to be revelling in all the sorrowfuls who are crying that he is leaving as he is continually shown before the cameras bewhaling his firing. Guess what, if Fulmer was winning games, he wouldn't have been fired! The Fulmer fans need to get over it and get on board for the Vols to start winning games. After the Kentucky game has been lost, the Vols will have had the worst season in our history, and I don't think that's a valid reason to bemoan Fulmer's departure, and I don't want to hear his name after this Saturday again. He's packing up his office a rich man who can live like a king for all the money he's been paid. I think Central High School could use maybe an assistant coach if Fulmer would pay them to let him carry the towels and water if he still wants to do something as he says.

Careful. It is a jungle in 'em words. Paragraphs are your friend.

The vast majority of CPF's success came when the SEC was Florida and Tennessee, and Florida owned him for the most part. The man simply cannot compete in today's SEC, and aside from recruiting, he is (or was) vastly overrated as a coach.

The SS Fulmer has been sinking since the 2001 SECCG, and it's high time a torpedo was put into it to finish the job.

The only things I'm going to regret are that he was allowed to stay as long as he did, and that the meritless extensions and raises received have resulted in a $6 million buyout.

Your man had the head set on too.And maybe someday it will come out that Fulmer probably screwed this guy royally.Just like Randy Sanders always a fall guy just caught up with him finally. No question Fulmer is a nice man so was Buzz do we wait till we go o-12 then would the Fulmerites finally let go or would they still be pleading for one more year.We screw up in our jobs we get fired and little compensation but lets get real he is walking away with 6 Mil in his pocket.I can't relate to that.

Fulmer didn't screw Clawson..
He gave him an opportunity to coach in the SEC, and be a part of a great program. Clawson didn't prepare a QB, put in offense that works, effectively game plan, or put an offense on the field that could score points. As a result Hamilton cleaned house

Fulmer has had Crompton on the roster for a while. Clawson had him for a matter of several weeks. What happened to his development prior to Clawson coming here? Nice try, but Fulmer is famous for his failure at improving players.

Fulmer was the one responsible for Randy Sanders and his........errr Phil's....errr....... lack of production from Erik Ainge in 05. Phil is lost without Coach cut.
