I think we turn it around and win 6

All this talk about bending for freshmen and younger players. JJ and the WR say not so fast. The biggest problem we have is the same problem we have had. Our lines suck. Both sides. Change whatever you want, QB, RB, LB, DB, but that won’t make a difference.

So lets look at this then. Its a lot of the same roster, but how many freshmen played on Saturday. A lot...... The more everyone talks about this "pattern" the more it looks apparent that Pruitt's guys are not the problem.

At the end of the day, Pruitt said on national tv that he will recruit 25 guys at a time that want to be here and that can take on the likes of Alabama. He can only do that in increments of 25.... That takes time.

And sorry, but I'm willing to take a wash on the first two seasons before I judge him 100%. Sure a reasonable expectation for season 2 should be no worse than last year (5-7). Anything worse would be upsetting, but if recruiting doesn't crater, I really don't care about this season. This isn't the average job. The previous coach always has recruiting issues in terms of number of bodies in positions. In Kiffin's case, a lot of his recruits were in trouble with the law or couldn't cut it in the class room. Dooley couldn't recruit lineman even if he had money to spend to do it. Butch then doubled down on that.

If Pruitt does worse than 5-7 and recruiting absolutely craters, I will then reserve my judgement that a move might be necessary. However, we have tons of talent on the coaching staff alone and they didn't just get dumb overnight. Just get thru the first two years and then 2020 is when you have an overwhelming majority of your players with a good chunk being upperclassmen. That's when I will judge a coach honestly.

Exactly. This was always going to take at least 3 years. We needed to load up on both lines, but those positions usually take the longest to see recruits develop to the point of contributing. It's great to get 4/5 star linemen, but very few are ready to step right into the sec wars in year one. Realistically, I think it's going to be 2021 when we really begin to see a return to looking like a solid SEC program.

Apparently there are some people that have an extremely difficult time grasping what they saw on the field Saturday. Miraculous turn arounds have happened in sports, however they are rare. But to have that miraculous turn around happen, everyone in the organization has to be pulling the cart in the same direction. I still see this program and University as dysfunctional to some degree...to the point it precludes any quick turnaround. JMO

I think that is a fair assessment. With that said, I think there is a big disconnect with certain folks in the locker room that just happen to be the guys Pruitt and Co. didn't recruit. He can only get new guys so fast. Basically 25 per year. To completely flush the roster of guys that aren't his guys, that takes time.

It does. And wrt your previous post, I’m not looking to jettison Pruitt. I agree it will take at least three years and probably five. JMO. We better just get ready to settle in for the long haul.

Which I am totally fine with.

One of the biggest changes that this staff has compared to Dooley/Butch 8 years is that we finally ponied up the resources for the staff. We have a great staff of good football coaches and recruiters. I don't think they are dumb. They all have exceeded at previous stops with great talent and development. We don't have that now as the majority makeup of the team.

I think Tennessee is at a first in terms of finally paying for staff upgrades. Hell look at what we did for Rick Barnes. I just don't think people who want Pruitt fired now really understand the ramifications of it because "throwing a dump truck of cash" to someone after firing a coach 13 games in will not work.

We have the same players on a 5 & 7 team last year except freshmen replacing the seniors that left. I said from the beginning we would be lucky to have 6 or seven wins this years. Now I am thinking it will be a challenge to get six wins.

Spot on. Same players with a few freshmen sprinkled in.....or same problem players with a few freshmen sprinkled in might be more descriptive.

Then JP needs to get rid of the bad apples and deal with the outcome. I’m all for it if that’s the problem.

Can they win 6 games? Sure they can if they get their head and hearts straightened out.
Will they win 6 games? I dont know but I sure hope they will.

The East is so weak this year and i think our talent on the roster will start to show up soon. Recruiting rankings dont lie just hang in their men.
Yeah, and we are in the East...and just lost to a 2-10 Sunbelt team picked to finish last.

By Friday the VN majority will have us at 10 wins. Saturday will knock reality back into everyone.

After the first game disaster, I wouldn’t have us at 10 wins even if we are sitting at 9-1 with Missouri and Vandy to go....

It's going to be right around 5 , 6 wins again this year. To get there might require hurting someone's feelings.

Carter you may be right, but even if they get to six wins it won’t erase the last three games. I hold Pruitt responsible for those debacles and don’t think I can ever forgive and forget the embarrassment he brought to Tennessee football.

The East is weak but if you haven’t noticed, we’re weaker.

No way do I see 6 wins on our schedule.
Totally agree. Only wins I see are UTC and possibly Kentucky. That’s it folks. If we shock BYU that’s 3-9 this year. Does Pruitt get one more shot or does Phil pull the plug??

We will win minimum of 6. Many teams have suffered embarrassing losses like this and recovered. We have even recovered from similar situations.

Don't give up yet. Let's see what happens this week before doom, despair, and agony.
