I think this team is WORSE than 2005

I realize that. Im just saying we could easily be 6-5/5-6 instead of 8-3. We have caughten the breaks in close games this year unlike 2005(except for the LSU game).

Isn't this the same kind of talk everyone badmouthed Fulmer for in 2005? Winning is about catching the breaks. RARELY does a team dominate its way to a championship.

Great to get the "W" no matter how ugly or sweet.

Having said that I don't think this team is worse than the 2005 squad. Ainge and the WR's have left a lot of us shaking our heads. That is the biggest similarity I see in this team and the 2005 squad. The first half of the season our defense's tackling was a reminder of 2005 D as well. In many ways I feel like a lot of our freshmen are very surprising at their positions. So for that reason I'm looking forward to our future and I've seen a lot of maturity gained by our young players stepping in as freshmen.

I mean Berry, Rogan, Vinson, Creer, G. Jones have winners written all over them. Our coaching is not the problem IMO. We have some critical leadership positions that are not being filled by playmakers. We have are very inexperience at CB yet we are 8-3 and have the drivers seat to the SECCG as representative of the SEC East.

I just get the feeling that UT’s stable is full and we are going to be improving at a number of positions next year. We are very fortunate to be where we are and sometimes it’s better to be lucky than great. I think were good and have the potential to be in the SECCG when our team does the fundamental things and doesn’t give the ball up.

We were out played in our losses no doubt but you can’t win them all. I had the feeling, in 2005, that our team was beating themselves. :twocents:

You guys might disagree with me but I truly feel that this team is worse than the 2005 team. The difference in this team is that they have recieved TONS of breaks in close games. You have to admit that we are VERY blessed that we haven't had a tragic year this year!

We were lucky to beat Vandy, USCjr., MSU, and Southern Miss( the gam was ALOT closer than the score)

Heck Alabama beat us 41-17 and UL-Monroe just beat them!

It just shows that we are so pitiful/lucky!
GO VOLS!
What a waste of Internet space. Shut up dude. Quit crying. CPF has always found a way to win games. Like someone posted, the 98 season was break after break. And Vandy has a good team this year. They should have beaten GA too.

Point is when their backs were against the wall, they did what it took to win. So show some decency and keep your mouth shut.

You know, I can't let this go without saying: The sign of a good team is resilience and finding a way to win. Yep, they could have folded at the beginning of the 4th Q, and we would have ripped em to shreds (just like we are doing now, even though it wasn't pretty they still they won), but they didn't. They hung in there and made plays when they HAD to and defensive stops when they HAD to ( minus that stupid pinhead pass interference call). Whatever the game was like for 3 quarters matters little when the fourth quarter is over. I'll take a win anyday of the week!

You've got the real take-away from this game... this team has learned to KEEP PLAYING HARD when they are down. They fought back and WON! They've learned one of the most important lessons of football. This is what was missing at Cal, FL, and AL. This is a great win for our younger players as well! We got some players who are leading... and they're learning how to do it well!

Way to go Vols!!!!

8-3 DOES NOT EQUAL 5-6 not matter how you slice. End of converstation. No way this team is worse that the '05 team. Please find another argument. Wow.

Good Grief, give this team a little credit. While not a great team they are good enough to win when playing poorly, and Vandy has always played us tough. We're on the verge of playing for the conference championship and I for one am happy for tthe team and coaches.

I still firmly believe that the first half of the '88 season was the most dominant we've ever seen. If not for the 5 point squeaker to Duke, and the 8 point squeaker to Bama, it very well could have been the most lopsided in Tennessee history.

Arkansas' crappy ass program has actually made it to the SEC Championship game not too long ago.

Arkansas actually has a long tradition of winning and championships... albeit in the now defunct SWC.

Other point... alot of crappy ass programs come out of the SEC West. The SECW has a tradition of that too.

In both examples you gave, the Vols were down by double digits and scored to make the game appear closer than the game actually was. The defense did play much better in the 6th game against Alabama after Majors fired Donohue, holding the Tide to 28 Points (after giving up 50+ points to Washington State the week before). That 0-6 start is still probably the worst string of games the Vols have ever played.

What was that called when we gave them the ball prior to half time?Skill on Vandy's part? I'll take any win at any time because our team has had the worse luck of anyone over the last several years.Besides, Thanksgiving will be extra special this year due to the fact when I visit my Michigan born/and Vandy fan inlaws, I'll be the guy in the room holding my freaking head up by george instead of the guy being on the receiving end of jokes!:rock:BTW, thank you Buckeyes.

I am not exactly thrilled that we won by 1 point over vandy.. but we won in the end thats all that matters. sometimes luck does play into it . If thats what it takes then I am all for it. There does need to be some changes made but IMO there is no way this team is worse than the 2005 team.
