I think this game makes or breaks our season ... We really need this one !

It's backs against the wall in an emotional way for fans. Lose this and I would say he loses a majority of the fan base. Plus, we are basically erased from SEC contention and our head coach goes legitimately to the hot seat.
Win and there is a sliver of hope of beating UGA in a 2 loss tie breaker for ATL, assuming also that UF loses 3 of the next 6 in SEC play. :-o Too hard to see us run the SEC table for 7 in a row. Honestly hard to see us win 4 of the next 7 at this point.

So yeah this is pretty important. Backs against a wall for the Vols.

Getting to Atlanta was a long shot before the season began and I was a little optimistic, thinking QD play would be better than what I've seen thusfar. JJ, DJjr, and TKjr's injuries are to our leaders and no one appears to be stepping up. Our head coach and OC aren't helping matters any. I'm neither nega nor a pumper, just trying to be a realist. I hope they play UGA well and may get a W but a close, hard fought game will go a long way in developing what I think is potentially a very athletic group of young men. I'm not sure "backs to the wall" expresses the situation correctly.

Makes or breaks?......I don't know. I want it to be a game that delivers better play by UT. If UT wins.......that makes even bettererrrr :)

Go Vols!!!!

If we lose, then our chances to win the division pretty much end with that loss. The likelihood of a 5-3 (at best) UT making it to the SECCG with losses to both Florida and Georgia, is extremely low.

Going out on a limb I see lol jk. If we win this one we'll most certainly win 4 of the next 7. I'm riding this one out with Butch:clapping:

True, I think UT wins, and Florida is not good enough to not have at least 2 losses this year in the SEC

That's what everyone thought last year when they still had Georgia, Arkansas, and LSU. We even had the tiebreak last year too.

We need this one badly because, first, georgia, florida and tennessee are typically the three best teams in the east and so the games among these three teams are crucial; and second, we usually need it because we usually f--k up the florida game, as we've done two out of the last three years and many years in the recent past.

Despite my personal opinion about the coach, I dearly want "W's" over Georgia (too many relatives who are Dawg fans) and USCe (can't stand their coach). That would at least give us something to look forward to with a trip to Bammer.

If we win Saturday, I can see us winning everything else (except maybe Bama - we have shot at Bama but don't see a win there yet).

If we lose Saturday, I see us melting down with so much pressure around the program. Probably loses to Bama, LSU, and probably 1-2 more at the end.

I'm going for option 1. Get it done Butch! Need to have suddenly/surprisingly great play from the QB to make it happen.

This game should tell everyone a lot, and Tennessee certainly needs it; however Tennessee still plays: SC, S Miss, MO, KY and Vandy.........win all of those and the season could still be OK......and much better than many of us think right now.

Yea because everybody and their momma had us going to the SECCG this year.

If any of the "smoke" comes from real fire within the program then Jones really needs a win like this. Beat UGA and we don't spend the bye week talking about who replaces Jones or whether TKjr did or did not quit the team before his dad patched things up.

But Jones has some things he needs to do and clean up.

So? Our standard should be lowered because Jones hasn't built a program to meet it each year?

We're in year 5. Jones owns this roster. He owns its development. He owns who is on it. He's responsible for who could have been on it and is not.

I don't blame Jones for what happened during the UF game. In all honesty, I don't think the ingame coaching cost UT that game. I blame him for the fact that we're in year 5 and have only inexperienced Fr and Soph WR's to depend on. I blame him for tolerating a S&C staff for so long that didn't do the job well. I blame him for the lack of depth on D. I don't directly blame him or the players for the mistakes they made... but do blame him because they were forced into the situation where they made them.

The things to blame him for aren't the "acute" mistakes and issues that arise. The things to blame him for are the systemic problems that occur due to his decisions over time.

Will Vol fans be impressed with what Kirby Smart has done in year 2?
Will Vol Fans hope UT follows suit with new HC, soon?
Go Vols
