Everyone in the nation already knows there will be a new coaching staff at UT next year. Keeping Dooley longer does not benefit us at all. It's been long enough.

1) Gruden/the next HC will not be announced within the same week that Dooley would be canned. Not only is it bad form on the University's part, but there's still lots of things to get through during the hiring process.
2) There's no rush in hiring the next coach. It's not like he is going to come in and coach the rest of the season. In an ideal situation, he is hired after a bowl bid is secured. It allows him to see the team practice and hit recruiting hard.
3) There's also no rush in firing Dooley. It's hard to believe that an interim coaching situation would win more games than keeping the status quo for the rest of the season. While many fans say this season is over already - going to a bowl game and getting 8 wins is important for offseason training & extra cash for an AD that is hurting financially.
4) In Gruden's case in particular, the last Monday Night Football is December 22nd. I'm not sure what his contract with ESPN is like, but there's a good chance that if he was the guy, it wouldn't be officially announced until after that.
5) Hart's silence on all things Dooley is probably the most damning evidence we have that there will be change. Much like we saw from the Auburn AD last week, all it takes is a newsblast or radio spot to simmer down the fanbase until season's end. As Hart stays silent, and the fanbase gets more rowdy, a scenario with Dooley in 2013 becomes more challenging for the program on many fronts.
Agree with all of that.
If Hart has an MOU with his next coach in place then there is little to no reason to publicly replace Dooley now. If he has to do a coaching search then, it would benefit the program to transition now and have an interim fill in during the search. Therefore, the less news and movement we see now, the better, simply because it most likely means Hart has everything in place for a quick transition at the end of the season.

Hey guys, just had this little convo in the It's Over-Announcement Coming thread. Thought I would drop these in here and be on my way.
Good day![]()
Yeah, I don't get folks thinking Gruden is going to announce himself as the new head coach on MNF...IF he is our next coach. That's just totally crazy to me.

I think if there was not going to be a transition we would be seeing a lot more positive press from the AD and all of the negative stuff would be squashed pretty hard.
Point #3 isn't accurate in our situation. Hart announcing Dooley gone will allow him to openly go after a coach. There are at least 2 other and maybe 3 other SEC schools that will be looking for a coach. So there's a definate edge in canning him before seasons end. And no one would be surprised at his ouster this year.
Your other points are good.

At this point, it's all BS and speculation. I've not tried to keep up with the Gruden threads but each time I check one out it seems the story is snowballing. Honestly, I think it's a rumor started here by some bored posters, got some attention from the media (which helped it grow) and is now coming back around full circle. It's going to be interesting to see how the final chapter unravels. I'm thinking it's gonna be one of those deals where the " Big Booster" backs out last minute.
I can agree with that. But, sometimes less is more. If he held a positve press conference, it would be perceived as the kiss of death. If he offers Dooley an extension...well, you know how that would float.
If he does have a move in mind, I hope he nails it. We don't need another up & comer. We don't need a fly by night in and out coach (Auburn). We need someone that can provide sustainable long term success.
If Hart can't find that guy, we may be better off to let Dooley have his Senior class. IMHO
The hard part for most of us is to have the patience to watch it play out.
*Kiffin would be a better example of a fly by night. Chizik is more like a one hit wonder.
Bingo.
The damage is done. Dooley is going nowhere until after the Kentucky game and I'm confused why anyone would want anything else. Of course it would be nice to get the word that Dooley will not coach next year but it's more damaging to can Dooley now than after Kentucky. Say you do fire Dooley now, you really don't expect Gruden to come in mid week and coach these last few games? And people worrying about recruiting, the worst thing is to name an intern coach. The best thing that can happen to us is to keep Dooley until Kentucky and then bring in a new coach. If we do make a bowl game, expect him to coach that final game as well. Nothing happens until the season is over and if it does, huge mistake on UTs part.
