“One player we continue to hear positive reviews about in terms of off season work on the field and in the weight room is Jaylon Wright.”-VQ

Wright was thrown into the fire before he was ready out of necessity. He should have redshirted, but depth didn’t allow that. At the beginning of the season, he was playing tentative and wasn’t finding holes, but as the season wore on, we began to see more confident running and he was starting to find seams. Much is made of “vision” (rightfully so), but a lot of what constitutes vision of understanding the offense and blocking schemes to anticipate where openings will be.

With a year and full off-season under his belt, Wright now has the experience and understanding to go with his speed. And it sounds like he’s transformed his body to add size and strength. I think Wright will be the starting RB and have a great year.

I feel like this is a very bold prediction. I was under the impression the RB1 job was Small’s to lose going into this season. If he can pass block at all he may have the edge on Small in my book…

Either way I think with the opportunities this offense provides for playmakers and the diversity of talent at the RB spot we should see a pretty consistent rotation of 3-4 guys back there. I don’t see us ever having a “bell cow” type three down running back thriving in this offensive scheme. It makes sense to have a rotation of fresh legs if you have the depth.

I was with you until that ĺast sentence haha.
Jabari Small has always been under estimated.
Runs with power and good vision. Great hands. Improving as a blocker.

Wright will be the solid #2 back though.
Williams-Thomas and Samson will also need to contribute on special teams and situational downs.

I certainly agree that Wright will have a big year. Maybe 700 yards rushing 5- 10 TDs. 6 ypc

I think both Small and Wright will play a lot, regardless of who starts. You mentioned blocking…that’ll be key. The biggest drop off when Evans wasn’t in last year was in the area of blocking. Small and Wright should both be much improved in that area this year.

Wright is very fast ,which is the edge all coaches covet. All other factors being the same IMO would give him a leg up!

Evans disappearance last year hurt the offense. We had no depth. Now, we have Small, Wright, Johnson, and Sampson.

I know Evans is probably a poor teammate and we're better off without him, but daggum he was good for a first year guy in Hypes system. One has to think he might have pissed away being one of the top RBs in next seasons draft.

He was a really good receiver. That screen vs Florida was beautiful.
