Since Curt went out against OU we haven't got a crucial stop. There's a part of me that feels if Curt could of been able to play at full strength we would be undefeated.
Probably completely wrong, but the defense seemed smarter and faster with him out there. Not a large sample size I know. I logged in for two minutes and seen a thread about Crowder stabbing a guy with a trident, and Butch Jones pulling a grenade on coach Z.

Every year since the fall of 2008, there has been a thread saying "We have finally hit Rock Bottom" I usually just laugh it off, but I think as a fan base we finally have.

I'll hang up and listen.

Yep that hurt. DB doesn't have a complimentary edge rusher. And Phillips looked like he got a concussion last night.
We miss Maggitt!

But Dobbs 4 Heisman said the defense wouldn't miss a beat. You don't think he was being overly optimistic do you?

Maggitt was the leader of the defense by miles.
I've heard several former players roughly say that his loss would have
a far greater impact than many realized.
A few made comments on his importance but it fell on deaf ears.
The legends of greatness about incoming freshmen prevailed.

FTR, not insulting the freshmen by any means.
My analogy would be that they are great soldiers... but they lost their general.
(except much less serious of course).

No on the field leadership from our D.

JRM does a lot but isn't the emotional leader like AJ or Curt.

Cam is not a leader in how he plays

Our best leader is honestly Kirkland but he's a freshman.

My niece works over at the children's hospital and she met Curt this week. There was a young football player that was going to have an amputation and at the last minute he didn't have to have it . Curt came over and gave the kid a signed football and visited with him. Curt's a good guy,I'm proud he's a vol!

Have they ever said how long Curt is out for? I know they said he wasn't coming back anytime soon.

Think about it. Coming into this season, Maggitt was our best player. He was our, well, Fournette. I am not saying he's on that tremendous level, he's not. But he is not far off.

And we lost him before OT started in the OU game.

Now would he have made us undefeated? I doubt it but close. And for Fournette?
LSU has played some close games this year. Would they be undefeated without him? I'm not so sure.

This season hurts so bad. Maybe the worst in a long time. We all saw the possibilities but overestimated the capabilities. Guys we are a good team. The staff, with tweaks, is a good staff. We are progressing. I know some of yup will laugh, but are.

At one point I looked on the front seven and saw Tuttle, Mac, Phillips, Kirkland. 4 f'in freshmen!!! I'm sorry Vol a Nation, but that spells HUGE trouble when your playing a line bigger than any in the NFL.

He won't play any more this season. They will be seeking a sixth year of eligibility. Should be able to get it as he missed 2 seasons with injury but the NCAA hasn't been overly sympathetic to UT in the past.

I agree with this.... Freshmen can come in and be difference makers at many positions, but DT and Oline in general aren't included

Great story. This should be its own thread. More to life than football.

It's hard to see the sun for are the clouds right now but I do tend to agree. I always said 2016 is the year. What hurts so bad is that we are just a hand full of plays away from being 5-0 and a possible top 10 ranking right now. We will truly find out what this staff is made of these next 7 games.

I questioned myself with this last week after our loss.

Maggitt's presence on the field is missed, especially in 4th quarter. IMO.....I believe 1 if not 2 of our losses could have had a different outcome. However we will never know.:hmm:

It might be a bit saying that with Maggit we'd be undefeated, but it's close.

What I would say though is that if we don't lose Maggit AND Gaulden, we would be undefeated. Every game it's been the long downs, and we're missing our heart (Maggit) and we lost what many around the program said was a very talented nickel (Gaulden), which has been the position that has been attacked on long 3rd and 4th's.

It's a combo of both imo.
