I think I dislike Pruitt more than Jones or Dooley

How can he go down as worst?

Beat fl.

3 bowl wins.

I hated him as coach but his record compared to Dooley and Pruitt is much much better.

Also led the worst all time season record and only winless conference season in school history. Butch had a nice rise but his fall was more impactful than any good he did as UT’s head coach

Butch Jones was the worst. He benefited from good QB play. Dobbs made him look good at times. That guy had no clue how to make guys better. Squandered talent.
He did have the talent - look at all the NFL guys playing today. How many from this team ( Pruitt recruits) will be in the NFL ?

But you have to give him credit for recruiting Dobbs. Butch was a terrible in-game coach but he did have an eye for talent. There aren't as many NFL players on Pruitt's team as there were on Butch's 2015 and 2016 team.
I think you have a Dobbs alarm and every time he’s mentioned, you show up out of the blue. Lol

100% agreed OP. He's unlikable.

We gave Butch hell about staff turnover. Look at Pruitt. 3 years. Only has retained Weinke, Friend, and Nieds.

We gave him the budget to shop in any aisle.

Weinke and Friend.

I had virtually no hope in Doofy.
I didn’t have a lot of hope in Bruce.

After that debacle of a coaching search I felt Pruitt may be the best you could hope for......at that point.

He had some good credentials (albeit not HC experience). He said the right things aight, he looked the part aight, he was southern aight.

He has flopped.....aight. It’s ugly.....it’s not getting better, the improvement is NOT here. The consistency is not here. The Pruitt experiment will linger.........however I feel, like a bandaid it would be better to simply rip it off.

Butch was not a good coach. First hand accounts of that being the case. Pruitt has a higher football IQ but I’m afraid he hasn’t at all developed the knack for being CEO of a team.
It seems like he’s in over his head
I agree but could Fulmer not step in and say "listen up, I still believe in you but it is time to bench JG and let Chaney run the offense"?

Butch went a year without winning an SEC game. Are we seriously putting Pruitt in the same box? I understand the frustration. I think he has some kinks that definitely need to get worked out but this comes with hiring a first time head coach. I’m not ready to throw him under the bus at this point. Honestly, I don’t want to go through another disappointing hire. I do think that Pruitt has some upside and has got to create a system with his own recruits.

You have to understand what he is seeing with players. JG may not be our favorite QB but he knows the offense better than the other guys. A coach at this level isn’t going to give up on a season just so he can develop one player like Harrison Bailey. He is the future but he wouldn’t do that to the rest of the team. I will say, I do not understand giving them little opportunity when the game is out of reach. And switching backups is a strange move. Essentially, we’ve given one drive to each of them.

I think Chaney’s play calling was weak again. It is way too one dimensional. I wasn’t overly impressed with him in the first stint with the team. We have to evolve as an offense. Saban knows this too. This is why he went with people the likes of Kiffin and Sark. Defensively, we just have to get better. The secondary, which should be a Pruitt strength, just aren’t where they need to be. Having a week off couldn’t have come fast enough. They need a week to get other young players involved and give them reps. Covid did impact development more than most fans realize.

Butch will go down as the worst coach of the 2010 decade. I don’t doubt Pruitt’s pedigree. I think he can be very good. But he has to flush out the holdovers of Butch. Jennings and Callaway and Trey Smith were the only good ones he inherited. Pruitt reshuffled and sent kids packing after the UF game last year. Time to buckle up and see if he can do it again.
Dude, it’s year 3 and we’re still waiting on him to flush the biggest stinker of them all.

What in the world is he doing. Still got JG in when HB could be getting some valuable play time.

Horrible, horrible game plan and just sloppy play and arm tackling. I don’t believe Jones or Dooley would have stuck with JG this long.

This just sucks really bad.
I will say at least Jones got us to the place where we were somewhat competitive with prominent teams. He beat Georgia in 15 and Florida in 16 then almost choked away Georgia in 16 but still got it done. Jones could recruit and his development was below average but maybe better than Pruitt. His problem was in game coaching. He blew games to Georgia in 13 and 14, Florida in 14, 15 and 17, oklahoma, arkansas and alabama in 15 and texas a&m in 16. In all of those games tennessee matched up talent wise with who we played and probably played better we just didn't come out with a win.

Dooley on the other hand could coach some offense but never knew what to do on defense. Sam Pttman's offensive line was better than anything Pruitt or Butch could muster up and even in 2015 and 16 our strongest linemen were Pittman coached. As i said dooleys downfall was defense. If he would've retained Justin wilcox we probably would've won a lot of games in 2012 and maybe we turn that into success in 2013 and 14. If Butch would've retained Pittman we could've been a top 5 team in 15 and 16.

Neither Dooley or Butch ever lost to Georgia State or BYU. They never lost 34-7 to Kentucky and they at least came within 30 points of our rivals sometimes.

Those who don't see we are better have lost your minds. There is enough historical memory here to know some simple things:

JG is not ever going to be an elite QB but in 2020 he is the best QB on the roster. If Covid doesn't happen, maybe it is HB
Lane Kiffin did not "fix" Crompton. The lights came on for the last half of his senior season. Crompton's play got Fulmer fired
You can tell from the language that the Butch upperclassmen still weigh down the culture; performance of Pruitt's men >> almost all Butch UC
Chaney scripted his best gameplan IMHO in either tenure here - (I tend to think JP had a lot of influence this week)
It's clear that we have coaching friction within the staff too
The lights "go off" for JG as we have seen the previous 1.5 games. When he is managing the game, we're competitive with everyone not named Bama / Clemson and it showed against Georgia. We have a sophomore Captain which says volumes on the culture of the upperclassmen. In the first two games, for the first time since Fulmer, we looked like an SEC team. That's a long time waiting, folks. KY was a complete disaster and unfortunately our situation is we have to minimise opportunities for JG to go "lights off" and hope he makes a few good plays. Chaney is not capable of that - he is a flag football OC and it was obvious when he was first here and was obvious against KY. It's clear JP is exerting more control over the staff and it's going to be very interesting in a Covid year what he and Fulmer do in the off-season.

The
I cannot dislike anyone more than I did/do Butch. I actually didn’t mind Dooley, at least he was entertaining.
Agreed The shower discipline pressor was one of the funniest things ever. Still laugh at it.

You think we looked like an SEC team with USC’s slot receiver gashing us on the same route for the ENTIRE game? You think Crompton just magically morphed into a good QB after playing bad enough to get a HOF coach fired?

If Pruitt had Dobbs Bama would be our only loss

You think the middle of the defense will tighten up with a QB change? Is the OLine going to magically get better?

JG is not a good qb...but there are other issues on this team that would cost us games regardless of the guy taking the snaps.

Tacking is one of them.
