if UT coaching staff could teach our boys how to tackle properly I think we could win half our games this year. not only do UT players tackle poorly, but Just about every team I have watched today suck at tackling. They reach with their hands, they try to tackle the ball carrier' s shoulder and they throw their bodies at the runner and most of the time they miss. Another thing I have seen a lot of today is that tacklers take bad angles.. If we could tackle worth a darn we would have an advantage. Just my opinion

Would love to see them get their head across the runners chest, wrap up, and drive through them with an ATTITUDE!

A pissed off, bad attitude at that!!

Part of it is all this targeting shite. One slightly off maneuver and you're ejected from the game.

Anyone know JP? He should probably see this as I am sure he and the staff have no idea we should tackle better.

Seriously though, I have been saying the same thing for years. Kids do not know how to tackle anymore. They just hit the ball carrier and hope he goes down.

Most are not going for the tackle first/only. They are taught to strip the ball to create turnovers. Gives the runner an extra 3-5 yards in the process.

Blocking and Tackling are fundamentally in football. If a team wants to win they must accomplish both better their opponent.

I fear today, it's coaches not teaching fundamental old style tackling as well as player attitudes. With players, it's all about, "Did you see that hit I put on that mofo? Just about killed him, man!" So the try to be a spear thrust or missile strike instead of a tackler. It's no longer about stopping a player from making a first down or TD, it's about administering UFC style pain. Wish they'd change the rules to force the game back to proper tackling. You'd see far less season and career ending injuries if they did.

Part of it is all this targeting shite. One slightly off maneuver and you're ejected from the game.

Plus the officiating is not consistent on it.
Plus all targeting reviews go through Birmingham.
And lastly but more importantly, that “one slightly off maneuver” could get the tackler hurt.
When you don’t play wide azz open, that’s when you’re subject to get hurt.

When will the helmet to helmet calls initiated by the ball carrier come into play? Hands to the face initiated by the ball carrier ( just look at that great stiff arm)? Oh that's right we need to favor the offense so the fans can see big scores and not become bored and wonder off to their I phones.

Texas 48- OK 45, that's just not football, maybe arena league.

there's a mental physicality to tackling we just haven't mastered yet...hopefully our zen masters will help us get better...;)

They teach fundementals all day everyday. Players are out of position for the play. Instead of keeping the ball in front of them and making a good tackle they are always arm tacking from the wrong angle. Exactly what running backs live for. The tacking will improve when the positioning improves. How long does this take, I don’t know.
