I suspect 1 of 2 things with this hire

That's what I asked. First hand knowledge. We averaged 196 yards passing per game, so no we didn't. And I didn't go to the faux news school of journalism so you're going to have to quote a reputable source as it pertains to your number of Illegals.

I hope not, because 40 rushes a game won't win in today's SEC. Run-biased (some) is fine, but not run-exclusive. Even Nick S. saw that writing on the wall years ago, and adjusted accordingly.
I think you are exactly correct. The best NFL and college offenses are throwing it all over the place because the rules have changed to favor passing and passing offenses have evolved to be very efficient with respect to completion percentage and interceptions. Even with our not particularly sophisticated Helton passing offense, JG went something like 160 passes without throwing an interception. So, if you are able to install an offense that gets 8 or 9 yards per passing attempt without increased risk of a turnover, why run it for 4 or 5 yards per attempt in a power running scheme. Pass happy offenses from Spurrier to the air raid offenses also find that using the run as a complementary flavor becomes more efficient. A lot of air raid offenses have running backs with high yards per carry averages.

UT ran a multiple offense this year that included plenty of spread formations. If you are talking about a spread option offense... then I hope he ignores you completely. UT needs a talent upgrade on O. They need talent at QB and OL immediately and specifically. Several of the OL's and JG may be able to develop. But they weren't good this year.

No clue, but he has a few guys on the defensive staff who were completely under the radar.

Honestly, I would make Freeze or Kingsbury say no. After that, I would seriously make a run at Jim Bob Cooter all the way. He and Patricia seem to not be getting friendlier as the year goes along.

I fully expect a Friend hire.

But if we are going college OC route, I think Dan Werner makes sense. I would love to see Kurt Roper get a look. Gets a bad rap from the Florida Muschamp days, but he's a quality guy. With Mac getting fired at Colorado, Roper likely doesn't have a job.

This hire has to be creative or a homerun. Friend or current staff are not that.
Aaarghhh! At Kurt Roper. Why do we need Muschamp’s old mistake?

Bama was 4th in rushing in the SEC this year. Saban was smart enough to realize what he had in Tua. He made the National Championship game last year with a run based O. His opponent... was UGA... the SEC's #1 rushing O.

If Pruitt wanted to install a spread offense then he would have done it this year. I cannot imagine him having this big of a change in his offensive philosophy after losing his coordinator. Frankly, I think it is likely that Will Friend gets promoted. Friend has had some success as an offensive coordinator at Colorado State and Pruitt is familiar with him and trusts him. I do not look forward to the collective volnation freakout when it happens though. Personally, I will withhold judgement until after year 4 (time for Pruitt to get his own offensive line recruits and develop them), until then it is going to be a long hard slog regardless of who is leading the offense.
I think Pruitt goes back to the Bama staff and hires Dan Enos (asst. head coach and QBs coach) He has been a OC before at Arkansas. He could then bring Jaylen Hurts with him.

I suspect 1 thing about this new OC; based on UT's history of hiring on-the-cheap up-n-comers, this hire will be disappointing to fans. It will have all the excitement of CSPAN program. A high school coach stepping into the role would be the most UT thing ever.
I like CSPAN

Guys. It’s Friend. Promote the underperforming. Don’t do anything bold. Someone might get offended or “not like it”.

Friend to OC, then a musical chairs shuffle, then an underwhelming hire at whatever position coach spot is open.

It’s the Tennessee Way.
Glad we have someone with inside information on here😒

Two days later and I still see it the same way. I think if Pruitt gets what he really wants we will see a vast reduction of under center playcalling, and we will see an explosion of different shotgun spread concepts. I expect to see a lot of RPO, and some read option sprinkled in ( between 2 to 4 snaps per game ). I expect the QBs legs to be a little more involved.

If CJP can't get what he wants with an experienced spread guy, I still see him bringing in/promoting a guy to continue the execution of the current offense we have.
