Tennessee lost its starting quarterback, running back who was the SEC offensive player of the year, most of the receiving corps who contributed, four starters on the o-line, five defensive lineman that played a ton, and their preseason all American corner tore his ACL in January. Yes, I think that #24 was too low to start, but it’s not some egregious/nefarious thing on the part of voters. Not that it matters that much anyway. If Tennessee finishes 10-2, they’re a lock for the playoff. 9-3 and they’ll still have a shot. Preseason polls are basically meaningless these days.

Voters pay too much attention to the skill positions. But the trenches are still what decides games. Voters didn’t factor in our excellence on both lines into their calculations.
You would think they at least would check the computer models.
