I smell upset

Weren't the 3 aforementioned players on the field when mighty Wyoming beat you last year on Homecoming?!?! And save your "what ups" for the next time you're on the Springer show.

That may be the dumbest comment I've ever heard. If I'm on the springer show it's because I impregnated your obese mother and white trash sister while your old man was in the corner sucking his thumb. You weren't around because you were off hookin' up with some dude(s). It only cost you 10 dollars for 2.

How are you going to blame the defense for that? Were you dropped on your head as a child?

He's just a homer dawg that thinks, "every year is their year". UGA is far and away most consistent; they consistently NEVER live up to expectations. How long do you keep a coach that almost gets to play in ATL each year?

John Adams got crucified for saying "Vols can't win SEC until 2012" which of course his only error was saying "can't" instead of "not likely" etc. NEWS FLASH: It is not likely that the Vols will beat FL this year or next year. My hope is that we will be competitive both years and put ourselves in position to have the opportunity to win the game. This unheard of rational and practical thinking will not prevent me from support the team or staff each and every time they take the field. FYI - I have already punch holes in my wrists and feet so it will be easier for some to drive the stakes through them shortly when the crucifixion ensues. This year’s team will be the beginning of better things to come; enthusiasm on the sidelines and in the stands, a team playing with a purpose, the most talented players on the field etc. The future of Rocky Top looks much brighter today than it did a year ago and I think this is a very good thing.

As the great Dewey Cox said It ain't easy to walk to the top of a mountain, it's a long, hard walk. It's a rocky road. But I plan on walking."

Can you hear it in the distance? The Lane Train is getting ready to leave the station and I'm getting on board to enjoy the ride!

Richt is the new Fulmer, minus the national title. I wouldn't be surprised if UGA were to lose 4 or 5 games this year. Their schedule is brutal.

I have absolutely no problem with this type of reasoning and conjecture. What bothers me are people who talk in absolutes about future events.

Are you kidding? Kiffin is in a high pressure situation. About 1/3 of the UT fan base is expecting a SEC championship by 2011 at the latest.

Some homers are expecting a possible SEC championship run next year.

He might get a mulligan in Year 1 from most fans (but certainly not all). If he goes 7-5 or worse, there will be grumbling. If he doesn't pull a top 10 recruiting class there will be even more grumbling, and if he has a bad 2010, I'd say half the fan base will start questioning the hire.

If he doesn't deliver in 2011, he'll be really feeling the heat hardcore.

Combine that with the tough upcoming schedule the level of competition in this conference, and man, the pressure is really high for this staff.

Kiffin is in a high pressure situation and you can take your condescending attitude elsewhere. UF canned Zook after what? About 3 seasons, right? But UT is "supposed" to be more patient because they're somehow inferior to you to start with, right?

Failure to be in the championship conversation every year got Fulmer fired. There is NOTHING wrong with UT fans having that high expectation. You really need to get over yourself and your thinking that YOU have a right to have higher expectations than UT fans do.

Here's another reason I like UT's chances against teams like UGA:

"I just think they practiced like normal teams do," he(Kiffin) said. "That's what I told them, 'You guys practiced with the focus of what a lot of the rest of the country does and that's not what we do to be a championship team.' I just thought we were just normal today."

I really like Richt as a man. I like his testimony. Other than a few Dawg fans... I really don't hate UGA. But the way UGA plays suggests they "practice like normal teams do" considering the talent they have.

FWIW, CLK doesn't seem to accept the notion that expectations should be set low either.

georgia's record under mark richt

8-4 (2001)
13-1 (2002, SEC champs)
11-3 (2003)
10-2 (2004)
10-3 (2005, SEC champs)
9-4 (2006)
11-2 (2007)
10-3 (2008)

three BCS bowl appearances and two BCS bowl wins. richt's main problem has been losing to florida.....which a lot of folks are guilty of.

these are the seasons mark richt has had at uga. unless you are a gator fan or an lsu fan, most everyone in the SEC would be jealous of this record.

i hate georgia with the fire of a thousand suns.....but, this he does less with more stuff is a bunch of horse...

UT won a lot of games in Fulmer's first 8 years as well. A 10-3 season is a disappointment when you are expected to contend for the national title.

Put the kool-aid down. You're starting to sound ridiculous. Talk football, talk personnel, talk coaching even, but stop talking about all this "fear the future" crap. It's really lame.
One thing is for sure....we'll see. Umm, BTW, I have talked FB. This is a Vol fan board and I belive that our personel is fantastic, our coaches will bring a level of intensity that will shock you, you should fear the future and you are the lame one hanging out on an opposing teams fan board lecturing me. What do you want me to say? 'Aw, shucks, you're right. I am all wrong and I'm glad you sre here to striaghten me out. Bite me!!!

I guess when you can't win a debate, you have to resort to name-calling. Shows your IQ. I'm tiring of this baffle and will be back to see you after the season starts. Just remember, you have the same players on the field who lost to WYOMING last year. So it might be best to keep your mouth shut until you see how this season pans out. Youthful exuberance is one thing, stupidity is quite another!
Uh-huh. You beat that 5 win team that lost to WYOMING by single digits on your home field. I think YOU started the insults AND showed a high level of ignorance about pharmaceuticals. This is a VOL board. What in the hell do you expect?? Another indicator of stupidity illustrated by exceptionally unrealistic expectations. PLEASE stick around. It won't be long now.

You will ABSOLUTELY not recognize this team. We are going to shock people, we could win or lose any game, but this will be a bizzarely different season than opposing fans expect.

You missed my point. I'm saying that Kiffin IS under a lot of pressure. For the reasons you just listed.

Err...Kiffin. Lane.

Geeze. I get grief for misspelling Arie Kouandjio or accidentally switching around Oku our running backs name with Uko the DL from CA I expect us to pull away from Oregon and USC. The head coaches name should be pretty easy to get.

I agreed with you, didn't I?

The difference is that you hope/think he'll fold and I the opposite.

Kiffen can get a pass for the first couple of years (especially next year).

No, "KIFFIN really can't get a pass. I know many of the more knowledgeable fans here are saying that 3 or 4 years out is OK but that simply isn't reality.

The same people who call Crompton "Crapton" and use Clawson's name as a byword will turn on Kiffin in the blink of an eye if they don't see wins.

I think it was AFL's post... but whoever said that fans will grow restless if they don't see almost immediate improvement is right... and especially those who weren't
thoughtfully in favor of getting rid of Fulmer.

FWIW, I think the guy is doing absolutely everything he possibly can to get UT up to speed quickly. He's concentrating more on JUCO players than he probably will in the future and has already taken some risks with some "character" concerns. OTOH, he's turned some character problems around on this current team and shown a great ability to get new guys ready to play in a short period of time.

false. Anyone who has watched the last few years knows where our talent is in relation to the rest of the conf. People not giving him at least2-3 yrs are idiots.

I'll give Kiffin 3 years...if he doesn't get us to at least the Capital One Bowl by then...you damn right I'll turn on him.

So you won't even give him enough time to get to his own guys through their senior year? Seems to me that should be the minimum of time we give him.

I'm torn. Of course I hope he folds because it would be funny to me as a Florida fan. But as far as thinking he folds, I'm not sure yet.

I think he certainly has a big challenge in front of him though. He is not in a favorable position, IMO, but that doesn't mean he won't succeed.

I'm not talking about the relatively small minority like you and others here. I'm talking about the loud majority that will be made up of people who were ambivalent or supportive of Fulmer and those who know little, say alot, and whose opinion goes where the wind blows it.

I agree completely that we're talking about idiots... or more accurately the ignorant masses... but I believe those people will be numerous enough and plenty LOUD enough to create a strong perception of unrest if there aren't immediate results.

but you're making an assumption the loud majority supports CPF. I think it's just the opposite and the silent majority sat there for way too long
