I smell upset

The Tennessee team might be underrated, but the coaches have gotten so much hype that they are clearly the most overrated coaches in the country right now.

Florida might be the most overrated team, but they certainly have some of the most underrated assistants.

at least tennessee is not referring to their staff as the "dream team", which for those who don't know, is what florida state referred to when jimbo fisher and other members of their staff were hired.

personnally, i am not afraid of coaches.

i am afraid of players. when the players get to tennessee, i will have the same level of concern i have for any other quality opponent.

How so? Their resumes are what they are.

But as someone else stated, the staff is being downplayed if anything by the media outside of Knoxville.

Outside of Charlie Strong, who on that staff has a resume comparable to Orgeron, Monte, Gran, etc?

BTW, I despise the Gators but really don't believe they are overrated. There are probably 6 teams or so who have a great shot at the BCS CG and UF is one of them.

If I were a Gator fan, and believe me I choked a little writing that, my main concerns would be replacing Harvin's production and to a slightly lesser degree Murphy's. I would wonder who could step out of the shadows into the #1 receiver role and if UF can finally have a real RB threat.

Only Hernandez returns after averaging more than about 1 catch per game. Harvin was the guy who showed up in the run game against better teams. The YPC for the others was to varying degrees inflated by performances against lesser teams.

There could be a slight concern with OL depth and the loss of some experience but no alot.

Don't get me wrong. With the talent UF has I wouldn't be losing sleep over any of this... just the few things I'd think about.

Florida's staff:
Gator Football Roster/Bios @ GatorZone.com

At the bottom of the page. Vance Bedford, for example, is one of the best DB coaches in the NCAA. Dan McCarney is an excellent Dline coach. Scot Loeffler is a well respected QB coach.

But the big key at Florida IMO, that sets Florida apart from the other programs right now is this guy:

Gator Speed & Strength @ GatorZone.com

One of 36 people in the world to hold the Master of Strength and Conditioning (MSCC) certification. This guy is what makes Florida so powerful right now.

I always thought that we had a drop off in strength and conditioning after our S&C coach (who's name escapes me at the moment) left in 1999 to go to Miami. They consequently seemed to really step things up after he got to Miami. We seemed to just get pushed around more, whereas previously we did not. Having a good S&C coach can make a world of difference.

Vance Bedford our CB coach. He coached Charles Woodson and many Michigan CB's.

Scot Loeffler: Coached QB's Drew Henson, Tom Brady, and Chad Henne.

Dan McCarney: Former coach at Iowa State(brought them more success than anybody they had recently). He turned Georgie Selvie(DE at USF) from nothing into i believe an all american.

Hype...overrated??? The whole reason we defend it is that we seem to be the ONLY ones who see what is taking shape. They've been nothing but maligned, which is exctly what they want and where they want to be...we see it/ya'll don't/that's good/ this is our board

Tigerdroppings is fun. I stay away from the bulldog board. They won't even attempt civil conversation. Warchant is also fun. The ESPN main boards have been really boring lately.

And I don't spend a lot of time here. I more like mosey through really quick and mosey back out again. I have a lot of internet to cover here during the work day.

:pirate:
Well, all kidding aside, it's good to have ya'll here. You really do like talking football and not just troll smack talking. I'm just giving you a hard time. Also, as you can tell, we respect the Gators...I just can't STAND Myer if for no other the reason, the look on his face. I think he came in at the right time to get a skewed view of what the SEC will be for the NEXT 10 yrs. As I've said, win or loose, you're not gunna like what you see over the next few years coming at you in Orange. But, it's fun having ya around to efficate why I think a "pearl Harboresque" attack is about to occur...beat ya this year--who knows. Make the next few years miserable--hell yeah

As far as posting on Gator boards, i imagine that just like any other board, if you come on and post garbage, spouting off about how Tennessee has the greatest coaching staff in college football history. How Lane Kiffin will never lose a game at Tennessee etc than yes Gator fan's won't like it.

But if you come on and discuss football, i don't see what the big deal would be.

Any guesses on how well Tennessee will be represented in Gainesville?
Probably not too well. Anywhere in the country, you'll have some idiot fans that make it miserable to visit. However, as anyone in Orange and blue can tell you, you'll be treated pretty well in Knoxville. I know that everyone I'm ever with goes out of their way to be a good host. As one who has been to every campus in the SEC in orange, I can't say the same for the swamp or Athens. It's, frankly, the pinnacle of rude. Much UNLIKE most Gators stopping by here for some good convo. It really should bother ya'll

Well, what ya'll just did on here was answer a question about your coaching staff. That would be seen on your boards as what you just described. If you don't believe me, try it. Log on from another computer as VolMan and try to have a rational discussion. I'm glad ya'll can do it here because it brings alot!! Thanks for balling up and participating.

AFL, again, I didn't say UF didn't have good coaches. You said UT's were overhyped and that UF's were underrated. I'm sorry but I just don't see it. UF's are probably getting what they deserve. UT's are probably somewhat underrated based on resumes alone. Resumes don't win football games but past performance IS a good indicator of future results.

Hear me out. Florida is riding high right now. They're openly suggesting they'll hang 60+ points on UT. Indirectly, they're equating UT as their WKU. Here's how they lose:

Confidence is great, over-confidence is not. Tennesse has confidence at the moment. Florida is over-confident. When you're over-confident, you attempt passes you wouldn't normally try. You protect the ball less than you normally would because you don't respect your opponent. You go for ball-strips instead of making sound tackles. You go for ill-advised INTs instead of making sound tackles. You try to exact a score, rather than win the game. Follow me?

The atmosphere is ripe for Florida to commit some of these very mistakes. Granted, the Vols have to play perfect ball and catch Florida in the mindset that I've just described. If Tennessee goes to the swamp and executes Kiffin's game plan, we may very well be "singing Rocky-Top all night long".

Tennessee 24 Florida 21

I don't know if I agree with you or not because I never made it past looking at your avatar.

That was the concern I had about going down there, but never been to Gainesville and thought I would try it this year. I am guessing around 10K Tennessee fans? what do you guys think?

Probably pretty accurate. BE CAREFUL. It ain't pretty. For all the talk of how "it's like that everywhere", it's simply not true. Gator fans here get treated well (isolated idiot aside). The same holds true for Ga and night games at LSU.....Bama, sometimes, but it's gotten better over the years (and I'm usually with a bunch of my Bammer friends that do a good job of looking out for me).

Don't go anywhere alone. Too many drunken idiots. Gameday in Gainesville isn't even safe for GATOR FANS, let alone a lone UT fan. People get out of control there. And the GPD will lock you up too, even if you're the victim.

There are some ugly rumors about Gville and gameday, many of which are simply myth. But it is still one of the least hospitable venues in the SE.

Just dont do anything stupid...and if you do ... do it in a public place...you guys will be fine on University Blvd on the N side of campus ... there will be jeering but it comes with the territory... go to any of the bars or restaurants and there and you will be fine... its not that bad ... ive been going to games since I was 9 and Ive never seen a beating in the street before the game ... if thats gonna happen prob gonna be after the game.

Agreed. There are some belligerent baffoons down there when they start drinking.

I'm sure the shovel you used to get to her will serve you well in your future profession. Seriously gator fans, this is the best you've got? Trolls get weaker each year

As bad as UT was last season, only a minor improvement would have resulted in an 8-4 season. I expect a much more improved team this season and thus results should be 8-4 or better...

1-0 Western Kentucky - do you really need a reason?
2-0 UCLA - lost in OT on the road last year, easy win at home
2-1 Florida - defending national champs on the road
3-1 Ohio - do you need a reason for this one too?
4-1 Auburn - at home, we'll get 1st downs this year
5-1 Georgia - the Vols are in the Dawgs heads
5-2 Alabama - tough loss on the road
6-2 S.Carolina - home win
7-2 Memphis - home win
7-3 Ole Miss - history says win, but Rebels tough on road
8-3 Vandy - they are still Vandy
9-3 Kentucky - won't this be 25-in-a-row

Even if the Vols lose to Georgia, they would still finish 8-4

Hmmm, you lost me on the UCLA game by stating that this game is an "easy win at home" (they're ranked ahead of you). And you beat UGA, a team ranked almost 30 places in front of you just because as you state "the Vols are in the Dawgs Heads". Were you in our heads last year? Beside S. Carolina you simply put "home win". Might I remind you that they trounced you last season. There's also that Wyoming thing that dispells the "easy win at home" thing. Your list is a very homer one. I respect UT, as I do most SEC programs. But you have to back up your 9-3 with reasoning rather than conjecture. I know, I know.....you have a new coaching staff and excitement is high. That'll die down after a few snaps and then the players will have to play. And I don't see a roster full of the talent at UT at this time that will get you a 9-3 season. I'm sure Kiffin would agree if asked in private. I also think that most realistic UT fans would also agree. With the players that you have, I think a 7-5 season should be more like it. In addition to the teams that you mentioned, you'll lose to UGA, and either SC, KY, or AU. UT is going through a rebuilding process and the realistic fans know that and will let the process work through. The rest will be expecting 9-3 and calling for Kiffin to be fired after a couple of 7-5 or so seasons. Just MHO.

I would not be surprised to see UT beat UGA. UT matches up well if healthy.

I seriously doubt UT loses to UK or USCe.

Anything can happen and I'm not altogether sure how good UT will be this year... but they aren't less talented than UK or USCe.
