I seriously think special teams will be the one major factor in this game...

After watching Oregon and Ohio St film, I realized that you don't have to be necessarily fast to stop them. Wilcox probably knows the spread offense like the back of his hand after coaching in the WAC. Even though Oregons spread is on another level now. But to me, this game will boil down to field position and special teams.

thoughts?

Thoughts? My thoughts are if it comes down to special teams we are hurting. I'm not as football savvy as many people are on this thread ,but I haven't been impressed with our special teams for a while. I've seen flashes of great coverage and kicks but more mediocre at best special teams plays. Just my 2 cents. I could be wrong ,but I'll hang up and listen.

make that young, inexperienced qb, throw the ball around a little. i wanna see him put it in the air. he didn't have to against new mexico.

He may not have to against us. I foresee many secondary tackles against their RB's this weekend.

A lot of people keep forgetting... LaMichael James didn't play last week.

General Neyland's 7 Maxims

1. The team that makes the fewest mistakes will win.
2. Play for and make the breaks and when one comes your way - SCORE.

3. If at first the game - or the breaks - go against you, don't let up... put on more steam.

4. Protect our kickers, our QB, our lead and our ball game.

5. Ball, oskie, cover, block, cut and slice, pursue and gang tackle... for this is the WINNING EDGE.

6. Press the kicking game. Here is where the breaks are made.

7. Carry the fight to Oregon and keep it there for 60 minutes.

Honestly I don't think special team, i.e, field goals, PATs, will be the difference. One way or the other we'll kill them or they kill us. If it does come down to special teams, we may be lacking.
But that's why they play the game.
GO VOLS!

About 10 years, minus Wilhoit and Colquitt.

Totally agree,...Rice never entered the game against NM to punt,...this is christening of action for the year and I see it big how he handles it. I expect errors, Vol's need to take those opportunities and score touchdowns not FG's.

Ducks tried to take a knee to practice punting but still scored, NM was terrible.

It also says, "The team that makes the fewest mistakes will win". Considering the muffed punt return we had against UTM, I'm not so sure we are quite yet capable of fully up holding the maxims.

Jones won't even be on the field next weekend. I hope we don't have to worry about securing punts. 1st game jitters should be out of the way now.

Avg punts. Check.
Short kickoffs. Check.
Line drive, low FG/PAT. Check.
Muffing punts. Check.

Yeah, we'll do great if it comes down to special teams.

The ONLY reason Lincoln/Cunningham are out there is that they have seniority, evidently. From those at pre-game warmups - Palardy/Darr were clearly superior.

Oregon has some question marks on special teams, they didn't punt or defend a FG attempt against New Mexico.
