I wanted to keep Kongbo on the D-line. You cant be an edge rusher and play patty cake with the O-line, he at least would've been taking up space in the middle. It also wouldve allowed our more athletic players get some snaps.

We have some freshman who are waiting to show what they are made of....probably going to see them in the next 2 games

If Jeremy Pruitt takes a chance on his freshman the way he did at the goal line on 4th down then we got us a real coach. I can live with the disappointment with freshman players making mistakes so go ahead and play all of them. What I can't life with is a coach who leaves players in the game who are unable to cover receivers or make penetration from the defensive line or don't wrap up when they tackle and that is why we hired another coach. I look for some different combinations in the next 3 weeks

Would like to see us get Petersen ready to go and put him in for Kongbo. The biggest disappointment Saturday was linebacker play. The secondary was terrible but they had no help from the guys supposed to get pressure on the QB. Kongbo did nothing again hasn't done anything since he has been here. Anything any other player could do in his place would be an improvement.

I expect to see Allen and Peterson play next game.

The show dogs didn't do very well so now we want to see the pups. Open it up and let them play. We want to see some rookies becoming STARS before our eyes. If they are hungry and barking put them in the game and lets see if they got any bite in them. We want to see those pups do some twrils, flips and jump through some hoops. Let them out of the pen and out on the field and Go Vols

One game. One freaking game and this is what we get from our "fans"....No wonder people make fun of us....

I've never even seen you before Junior. Go have a Yoo Hoo, maybe that will calm you down. And no, we don't need to be starting a bunch of freshmen, thats what the OP was getting at.
Your going to have to have some freshman ready Hoptown...by the time we enter the teeth of the SEC play we are going to have INJURIES. I know you know that. Might as well throw them in there and get them ready now. What are you going to do when the opponents defensive coaches rip your defense to threads. You might coach them up better at taking the correct angles ect. but you cannot make up for the lack of speed. So if a freshman has it then put him out there. Get him adjusted somewhat to the speed of the game now...

Whats your answer to the lack of speed...on both sides of the ball...unless we see what we got in the bullpen you'll probably be the one crying come October...Let a few go down to injury and then lets see what you say....we are one man away from being worse than you thought...I can live with it because I am not living in a fantasy...I have hopes but not blinding myself to reality. I love the players and the coach but a lot of people don't want to see the lack of speed on the field come Florida game.

What did Pruitt do the other night...started freshmen and they weren't ready. I guess you're going to have to define "play the pups" because it appears Pruitt is way ahead of you.

Then you better find some freshman who can play...just how many injuries DON"T you expect to happen this year....Your living in fantasy land...wait until we enter the SEC play...I love Pruitt and the players but all I saw Saturday left me a little surprised by the lack of speed on offense and defense.

Tell Jeremy Pruitt hAD better find a speedster and put him at wide receiver...and I mean like today...SEC defenses are going to pull those safetys and strong safetys up even closer to support the run if we don't have wide receivers with speed to open the middle of the field...YOU CAN TAKE THAT TO THE BANK.

I like to lighten things up a little bit and have some fun but in all honesty Pruitt better find him some speed and better find him some defensive players who absolutely hit the gaps with speed and power...you got about 3 weeks to do it....doesn't matter whether it be freshman or not...if we see that lack of speed when we enter SEC play ....well, lets hope that doesn't happen
LOL

OK I surrender. Lets start all our Freshmen linemen on both sides of the ball against Florida, and give Strout the start. Cause you know, its a throw away year and we have to see what they can do. LOL

Silly, sillier, silliest.

Ok... Mr. Optimist....guy with all the answers.....what would be your solution? BTW.... Mr. Serious Vol Fan....who is this "Strout" guy you are mentioning???

We don't have to get any better. Too many people are happy to be losers and then blast every normal person who gets mad about it. Basically we should all expect to lose every game and if you don't then you're a fair weather fan with crazy expectations. Didn't you guys get the memo? It takes four years before a new coach can win a freaking game and if he doesn't it's automatically the last coaches fault somehow.

Let me put this WAKE UP CALL ON YOU....Hall could go down any play...Kennedy was being held out of a lot of practices...and big 5 star Smith had his ankle taped...They are very lucky for two cake walks to heal up and maybe develop some freshman as depth.

Wait until the SEC play and the real talent of the SEC comes calling...Its a meat grinder and we don't have the talent to compete yet. SEC defenses will eat Tennessee up. They got quickness to be by the OLine in a split second. Better show that Michigan St. running back how to quickly hit the hole. Look for Banks to get a lot of playing time. A lot..

So for all you saying FRESHMAN WILL GET YOU BEAT...YOUR HERO PF...lets see what you have to say at the end of October...o_O

I think its hilarious that you think he might actually follow your advice just because you posted on a message board

A 3-4 would be 3 to 4 years away...I dont know how the other freshman would perform in a real game...not until you play them...we saw how the whole team played last night...

Its a throw away year...we want to see which freshman have it and who doesnt have it on the field of play...you can coach kids up but you can't increase their speed...if you are two steps slower than the receiver you are covering then you are toast...coverage is your only hope...
We want to see who has the skills..the talent while a whole lot isnt being expected of Pruitt and he has a first year freebie...
Are they really slow or are they rather a step behind in not knowing what they’re supposed to be doing a specific play or coverage? Just a thought. I’m taking the later because I know Nigel Warrior, Alontae Taylor, Bryce Thompson, and the LB corps are not slow for there respective positions. It is hard to learn a new defensive scheme in 8 months let alone trying to implement for the first game of the season. Just tired of the negative naysayers. Let this staff do their job and see if they can improve. How hard is that honestly

And while we are at it. That awesome 3-4 or isn't going to work is it. With this group a 6-4-4 might not work either with what I saw saturday.
Everybody could see how slow the D was. Lets not kid ourselves. It is what it is and we all saw it. So go ahead and if the freshman he signed is as good or could be coached up to be better than what was on the field then let them play. Lets see them on the field of play.
Now what is silly about the post

Allow me to be an oracle of the obvious: what is silly is that these conclusions are drawn after a single game.

It's like taking a dose of medicine, "you don't like it, but you know you have to take it sometime to get well"

What you said is true and makes sense, but due to this lengthy drought of mediocricy, some are ready to call in hospice. I will keep supporting and hoping for a quicker recovery.

I listened to todays press conference. Glad coach Pruitt spoke about developing depth. I think some of you misunderstand some of the fans. We love the coach. A real coach. We love the players. Still you have to develop the freshman this year and their talent to survive a grueling season.

Sometimes when the lights come on some of these freshman may shine.

We were rarely in 3-4 defense against WV's offense, we'll see that against more conventional pro-style offenses

I don't think so this year but you may be right. I don't think we have the muscle up front right now. When Bama ran it they had a 3 man front and the 2 linebackers on the outside were almost on the line of scrimmage most of the time. So you didn't know if 3, 4, or 5 would be coming at you.
