that about this time last year many of the posters here and on govolsxtra were calling for Fulmer and Company to bench Eric Ainge and start John Crompton. It was so obvious to so many that Crompton was head and shoulders above Ainge that it was a no brainer. Fulmer must have been a fool for keeping Crompton on the bench.

Fulmer stuck with Ainge because he obviously knew what the hell he was doing since he saw them practice every day. He stuck with the player that he felt was better prepared and gave the team the best shot at winning.

Now that Crompton is a total bust the very same people that were yelling the loudest about getting him in the game are yelling the loudest about getting him out.

Fulmer announced today that the position would be fully opened to competition this week and the most consistent player would get the start on Saturday.

But Noooooo thats not good enough! He should bench Crompton immediately and start Stephens without second thought. He's a fool and is blinded by his own stubbornness. Sounds kinda familiar.

Maybe there is a reason Crompton is starting, could it be the same reason Ainge was starting last year? Anyone think maybe Stephens is where Crompton was last year? Of course he can't be any worse than Crompton is this year. But what if he does get the start and stinks the joint up, again and again. What does that do to his confidence if they throw him into the fire before he is ready? I would venture to say we would have another Ainge the sophomore on our hands.

Of course Crompton is no where near the QB Ainge was last year and he is bad, just plain bad. A lot of people wrong on that one.

The point is that maybe we should just let the Coaches coach the team.

the point is, last year after we lost to Florida, we had to play Arkansas State. this year after the Florida loss, we had to travel to Auburn. We're 1-3 this year and 2-2 last year. Huge difference

You said the same thing in a thread yesterday. I asked you to do a search and show us proof of this. You never responded.

If it is true then please prove it. If it is a lie that you like to tell to support your case then it calls into question all of your comments.

hes telling the truth. there were alot of people doing just what he said.

The only people you're likely to hear really calling for Ainge's head last year were the same Ainge haters you see today.

As a freshman, Erik Ainge was light years ahead of where Crompton is right now.

I wasn't an Ainge fan. I thought Crompton would be an upgrade. I was wrong. Very Very Very wrong.

Sorry I didn't see your reply and no I'm not gonna go back through a year to prove anything to anyone. I'm not in the habit of telling lies. Thats the way I remember it. The members that had that opinion last year know who they are and I don't expect to many to fess up now.

If you want to prove me wrong have at it. The fact is that Fulmer stated today that the competition was open and he has been ridiculed at every turn for not flat out benching Crompton and replacing him with Stephens.

Don't get me wrong Crompton is real bad. Maybe Stephens is just as bad or worse. Maybe Stephens is simply not ready. Then again maybe he is.

Think maybe he's listening to his offensive coordinator and QB coach?

What is your definition of "alot" and then prove it for him.

I dont really care about it that much man to do all that. maybe it was like nation said above and was the Ainge haters. By alot well week in and week out I remember posts about starting Crompton because Ainge can't throw deep, etc.

So, there are 1.6 million post on VN. Do you want me to provide a link to all 1.6 million to prove you wrong.

Perhaps you remember it because that is how you want to remember it to support the rest of your comments. I still call BS.

Call it whatever it is you want. I guess I could say the same about your memory. You don't remember it because you don't agree with the premise of my post. See how that works.

I'm sure there is a moderator that will have some insight. If I remember it incorrectly then so be it, but at least one other member remembers it that way.

Your probably right. I guess the point I'm making is most of us want a change, but we want it based on emotion.

Any coach in his right mind would do what Fulmer is doing right now.

I don't really think so. If you see a QB that has shown virtually no progress throughout 4 games, you'd be crazy not to bench him. If I was coach, I would have benched him at the half of the Florida game.

You claim something as fact and then cannot provide proof. Very Weak!!!

I agree and remember that. But TVA and maybe one or 2 others do not constitute "many posters" . He exaggerated to build a case for his point and I called him out on it.

Because I asked him for proof, he says I “insulted him on a message board”.

You basically called me a liar and where I come from thats pretty much an insult. I didn't exaggerate anything. THAT IS THE WAY I REMEMBER IT.

As you can see I don't have a ton of posts and I don't spend every day here on Volnation. Regardless of whether it was just one or twenty one posters, that is the way I remember it.

Flstf Vol we have the same memories. You are 100% correct in this sense. People did want to see what Crompton could do. They were tired of just taking what defenses had given them. They wanted a QB that could at least attack down field. They were tired of the passive nature of the offense. They also had hope that a highly recruited QB who had spent two years in the offensive system could possibly bring that to the offense.

In retrospect Ainge was certainly more prepared. Now, should it make me feel better or worse? It seems that we have now spent the last 4 years just taking what opposing defenses will give us and allowing them to control the tempo. It hasn't changed.
