What are they?
We had a big pond, heard frogs and crickets all night. Lightning Bugs all over at night and could actually see the stars. Living in the highlands you see and hear none of that. Just cars, street lights and drunk people it sucks sometimes.

Those places are getting fewer and fewer. Soon, will exist only in our minds. I grew up on a hill with open sky. At night, there wasn't a light to be found within 5 miles. You could see forever into the sky. Lightning bugs everywhere. And, a few bats.
I remember there was a huge steep hill we had to drive up out of the holler, it was gravel. During the winter you had to park at the top of it and walk about a mile home. If you drove down it and it snowed or iced, you were not getting up the hill till it melted. Which took forever because of heavy trees on both sides of the road.
