My 16 year old asked me for somekind of X-Box. I admittedly was half listening.

Somebody educate me real quick on X-Box's. I'd love to get a good deal tomorrow, and I'm sure the best ones won't be the ones on sale, but just tell me what I need to know if you can.

Thanks guys!!

I bought him a Nintendo Wii last year and there is something wrong with it, like it read the disk or something so I told him he could pick out any other game station he wanted and he said XBOX.

The new Xbox is referred to as an Xbox elite. It's smaller, all black, has a wireless adapter (for the Internet connection) and has an internal hd.
Realistically, a used regular Xbox is exactly the same though. They all play games exactly the same. If you get an older one, some things you wanna make sure it has are: 1. a wireless adapter (or have it near an Ethernet wall plug so it can have a wired Internet connection).
2. An external hard drive so they can save games.
3. Some controllers (wireless are more convenient, but more annoying when you have to get batteries/ invest in rechargeable batteries).
If I were going to buy an Xbox myself, I'd probably go for an older used one, but if you wanna make sure you get everything, I'd go for a new elite. While the old and new have the same hardware, the elite should come with everything, will have a warranty, be smaller, quieter, and better looking. It's a little more expensive, but if you really do the math on how much they'll use it over the next few years, it's really not too bad.

Thanks guys!! That helps!

Brewer, (your avatar rocks btw) someone mentioned there's a shop here where the guy updates X-Boxes. If I got a lower end one (like the one for a couple hundred at Walmart), would the guy be able to do something to it later if we wanted him to?

Sorry I sound like such an idiot about this. It just hasn't been on my radar til now.

The new Xbox is not called an Elite

That' a great question, I was wondering the same and if that would be enough or would I need to upgrade it?

If he's wanting kinect you're probably going to want to buy the new xbox - but i'm on my phone and cant see what they are linking to you.

Really not sure myself, but he brought me a walmart ad with the XBOX ad and it says XBOX 360 4GB Console with Kinect. That's all I could find on it.

The new Xbox is called Xbox 360 Slim. If you buy that Xbox it comes with the port for kinect (still have to buy kinect separately). If you buy and older Xbox 360 you have to buy an adapter for kinect to plug into the xbox.

There should be some good black Friday deals. Best buy and target come to mind

I wouldn't go with an older xbox. The new ones have cut out most of the problems associated with the older models. A slim or elite is the way to go, just have to find a deal on it. If you buy an older one instead, you have to worry about buying controllers, adapters, etc.

Depends on how many games and downloads will be played consistently. The 250 gb hard drives are usually around 100 bucks normally. I can't imagine 4gb being enough.
