I mean what did you expect?

Well we won so I'm happy. But I'm also interested in if anyone else seen the kid get dragged away for fighting last night in the stands. Looked like he turned around on the cop and started to hit him. I was in section A and it was to my right. Two cops hoped the fence to go help lol

Bowling Green dropped 8 defenders most of the night, they respected our passing game more than our fans.

Do you think SEC teams are not going to drop 8??? And will have front 3 that will embarrass our offensive line . We are not a good team. 4-8 may very well be the ceiling for this team. A few key injuries and we very well could be a 3 win team.

I think most fans are frustrated because we have a highly rated QB on our roster and have endured rough QB plays for sometime now, yet continue to struggle at the position.

Everyone us mad about one position. Not coaching, not receiving, not running backs, not defense. It's all about QB. One position where Milton didn't meet our fan bases low expectations.

140 yards against a winless Bowling Green team is unacceptable. It's one position that will hold this team back from fulfilling its potential, however low that may be. No one is expecting college playoffs. We realistically want to compete and get some wins against Kentucky, Missouri, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Pitt, etc. But starting Milton could lead to losing all of them
Yep, if he doesn’t make a big improvement by next week and thereafter.

I know people are disappointed but dang. With all this program has gone through we can’t expect to be world beaters out of the gate. Sure Milton left somethings to be desired but we also did some things a little better. Anyone that had ANY kind of expectations coming into this season would would be operating on hope. With the player and coaching turnover we really didn’t know what we had. If you are disappointed it is because of over inflated expectations. Just stay behind the Vols and I have always said Heupel gets a pass this year. I mean he walked into a dumpster fire but… he wants to be here and is working his butt off and I happen to believe he knows what he’s doing unlike the previous coaches.
so we couldve lost to a team we were 37 point favorites in and youd still feel good about heupel?

I expected to see a balanced effort to display and improve all of our teams core skills and competencies. Defense, special teams, and running game all looked solid and well managed, much better than last year. The missing element was an effective passing game, which is not exactly an optional phase of the game in 2021. We didn’t need numerous 80 yard bombs. All I hoped to see was crisp, effective, and solid throws, especially in the 10 to 15 yard range of the type needed to keep drives alive in the SEC. I was rather…how to put this…..disappointed in that regard.

I predicted a score of 38-14, so I expected the defense to give up 2 TD instead of 2 FGs. After the first two drives, I did not expect the offense to stall the way it did and for the defense to start giving up long possessions. That was discouraging, but overall, it was slightly better than I expected. Remember, we barely beat Charlotte and UMass in recent years, and of course there's Georgia State...

I suspect it was a UGA fan:cool:

The problem, as we've seen for years at UT, is that if you don't have good QB play, everyone else playing well, still doesn't impact the game as much as the sub-par QB play.

This is the one area that Heupel is supposed to be a lock on, evaluating and developing QBs, and what we saw last night throws that into serious question.
After one game?

That's right. UT's purpose was to win the game. They did, for three of four quarters. BG's purpose was to keep Tennessee from running up the score. They only partially succeeded. The game was a 38 to 6 blowout, with Tennessee moving the ball for most of its yards on the ground. Our team played well, with an exception. The O-Line blocked well, but the passing game did not meet expectations. Why? The QB and WRs under-performed. That last point is the cause of disappointment and concern.

Ya'll are ridiculous!! Yeah,Miilton didn't play GREAT...Anyone expecting a Peyton, Tee or Casey performance is a damn fool living in the 90s....he has confidence and is easily the most physically gifted qb @ TN, EVER....he looked ROUGH I admit. But calling for his positon after 1 game?? The Vols are SC, KY @ best right now... Pruitt crashed this program off the Gay st bridge......I saw potential, athletic abiltY and the potential to be so much more.... hes got an absolute GUN for an arm, hes built like a D-lineman or LB,......and he is somewhat mobile...when is the last time TN had that? Martin, Schaeffer? NOPE... I have been on here for 10+ yrs and this is my first post.....just usually laugh y'all off but you are bleeping delusional if you think he shouldve played like Brady and the team shouldve been as good as Bama in Heupels 1st game....
I used to live in Knoxville...my sons both went to UT and I fmostly follow this site for amusement....my UT is in Austin...i called Peyton 'CBF' before i moved to Knoxville (cant beat florida) but my sons love TN, SO I follow this site...its been 1 freaking game, they won by 30+. ..WTF are you b#tching about? TN has won what 7-8 games in the past two years??? Cant wait for conference season....my abs will look like a Speedo model fron laughing my #ss off after looking at this site...

I dang sure expect more than 140 yds passing against bowling green.

I totally agree

However did you expect 320+ rushing?

Did you expect to hold them to 32 yards rushing?

What about holding them 2 of 14 on 3rd?

passing game……yikes….agree……but they did “other” things……I really didn’t even expect.

Sorry, there is no excuse for that abysmal performance in the passing game.

Yes there were the drops, but that has nothing to do with leaving 2 long TDs on the field because of lack of touch.

That was very low talented BGSU team.
Come on dude. Every QB I’ve watched today has made some overthrows and I’ve seen several. This ain’t Madden. If he fails to connect on the next few I’ll be concerned but 0 for 2 in game one? Who cares

When Bowling Green dropped 8, Milton didn’t adjust well in finding his check downs, so he held the ball too long and got into trouble. The overthrows were due to first game adrenaline, so they don’t bother me. Receivers dropped 2, or 3 passes which would have helped the stat sheet. He slipped out of trouble in the backfield several times and made some great plays with his legs. I give him a B+ overall.

Took less than one week into the season to get the year zero crap again. Some of you just never learn.

I think everyone is infatuated with Milton’s cannon arm but that doesn’t equate to anything like touch or the mental aspect of the QB game. Joe Milton has already graduated so let’s not act like he’s Harrison Bailey in his second year and is still learning; trying to break bad habits. Milton is a seasoned player and all day yesterday I saw sophomore QB’s play 2 and 3 times better than Joe Milton. I saw other QB’s that didn’t have as many stars by their recruiting ranking play a lot better than Milton. I saw other QB’s that don’t have a cannon for an arm yet they got the ball to the receiver far more efficiently and effectively. But most concerning for me is Joe Milton’s lack of self awareness. In the article I read he stated after the game that he thought he had a good game and that he can do it all. That’s a huge ego and he’s shown NOTHING to back it up. He should’ve said he had a crappy game and that he has to get to the film room and learn from his mistakes.
