I love the thought of our team getting leaner and faster....

Best line coach in the NFL likes 'em smallish, with strong trunks and strong hands.

Correct, big does not always indicate strength. Defensive players have gotten quicker over the years it seems, you need more athletic linemen in the passing game, it also helps in run blocking assignments when they are a step quicker.

Everytime I think of big, quick guys... I think of the Titans/Falcons game from last year where in about 2 seconds from the snap of the ball Haynesworth had lept over the line to sack Byron Leftwich to win the game.... it was like watching a Great White Shark leap out of the air to eat a seal.

I know that "leaner" doesn't necessarily mean smaller but if you look at the two teams playing for the title this year those guys are BIG in the O line. Easily 300+ lb average.

I like "athletic" as a description instead of size. The Haynesworth example above being a good example.

You take naturally big guys, push them in the training room, have them lose the excess fat. I'm not advocating taking a player who weighs 300#'s naturally and have them play at 260, I'm just saying burn the excess fat and have them playing at 280 to 285. I think that's all CLK would advocate.

Any chance I can get them around 305 after losing the excess fat? :)

Guys like that are very few and far between.

I know that Meyer is fanatical about athleticism but his O line includes the Pouncy's (312 each) and Carl Johnson, who goes 330.

I just wonder if we get O lineman down to 290ish and if line suffers we won't hear the "too small lineman" crowd come out pointing fingers.

All we need is for our linemen to be in shape. The Outland award winner and the national champ team lines are huge as was stated earlier. But what we need to look at is that these big athletes are in great shape. That's the type of linemen we need.
