I just have to vent.

What happened Sunday was the perfect storm. It consisted of three main issues:

1.) The day before we had just finished the worst season in UT history.

2.) This is probably the worst one of all. When Currie announced Butchs firing, we were told money wasn't an issue and that the hire would be explosive. For three weeks now we have had our hopes up. We were trolled by Davenport and Currie aboiy Gruden.

At the time it wasn't a big deal. We were still going to get a big fish right? Turns out we were dead wrong. Currie chose Schiano.

To make matters worse, he had chosen Schiano before Sunday night. He potentially didn't contact some coached.

So why the trolling? Why the false hope? Why the promise that he would hire a championship coach that has credibility and sec experience?

Currie trolled us and then slapped us right in the face. It's sad UT feels it can treat it's faithful fans this way.

3.) He chose Schiano who has ties to the Penn State scandal. Also, his Tampa Bay coaching career was flooded with controversy. Finally, he was a mediocre coach.

Yes, Currie tried to hire a coach worse than Butch Jones! WTF.

Summary:

Currie trolled fans. Promised us a big fish. Led us to believe it was so. Instead, it was Schiano all along. We missed out on other coaches.

Well said OP. I am sure this has been brought up a time or two, UT should have hired Blackburn.

All good points. Talk about an AD that is completely disconnected from the fan base. Of all the coaching candidates out there, Greg Schiano is probably the worst choice, especially for a group starving for something hopeful. As you stated, coming off the worst season in a LONG time, the last 10 year debacle of Kiffin, Dooley, and Butch, all hired by inept ADs, this fan base lost its dang mind when Currie was about to announce the worst fit for this program.

I'm just really disappointed about the whole trolling mess with Gruden. Davenport liking tweets etc..

Then Currie led us to believe he was going to get a big fish. He didn't even use a search firm.

Then we find out it was Schiano all along.

I feel wronged. I've put up with a lot of **** with my school in the past fifteen years. Yesterday was the final straw and I'm disappointed.

I'm actually coming around to the idea that there was an actual power struggle with Haslam and other boosters and he and Currie tried to get one over on everyone because Haslam, as one of his usual terrible decisions, thinks Schiano is a good coach/person.

Currie should be fired immediately.

And the Haslams should be banned from the University of Tennessee.

Both are a cancer.

It was a slap in the face to the fans after everything he promised. I really thought we would turn a corner with this hire.

Sadly I was wrong.

How does UT fix this problem? They bring in massive amounts of revenue. They have top notch facilities. Yet, here we are.

Currie didn’t lie. It was “explosive”.

It just happened to explode in his face.

Now to be fair, if you let yourself believe Gruden was actually coming at any point then that is on you.

:rock::rock::rock:Amen! Amen! Amen! You have summed it up correctly. If you want to get some action, everyone send an e-mail to UT Chancellor Davenport and complain...even requesting that Currie be fired now. She is the one who hired Currie and responded today with a bunch of meaningless crap!

bdavenport@utk.edu

Flood her e-mail account above. She is now on the hot seat, so turn up the heat. I personally do not think she has the guts to fire Currie...unless enough UT supporters keep the pressure on her.:clapping:

Read my OP.

I didn't believe that Gruden was coming. However, I did believe we would get a big name coach. That's why I was okay with the trolling by Currie.

It turns out our big name coach was Schiano.

Did Currie even try for other coaches?

I don't see the point in contacting Davenport.

It's obvious they are out of touch with the fans.

The only thing that talks is money. None of my money will be going to UT.

This truly has nothing to do with Gruden. He could’ve announced any relatively successful HC and not received that reaction. Mullen, Sumlin, Norvell, Frost, Strong, and even guys like Kiffin and Petrino. You would’ve had disagreements, but nothing on the scale of what we saw.

Considering he told us money wasn't an issue. Then told us there would be no search committee. Also told us he would find a credible person with SEC experience and championship history.

Does Schiano have any of those as a head coach?

Currie lied to us. Then trolled us for weeks about Gruden. I truly believe we had Peterson, Patterson, Mullen, or Frost locked up.

In hindsight I was foolish, but I believed Currie had his guy when he said no search firm.

Plus, I did sign the petition. Hah.

Promised a big fish and was surprised when folks got pissed when he served sardines..not exactly a guy in touch with the typical Vol fan.

Disagree on #3 if you are talking about coaching abilities.

I also think Schiano had nothing to do with the scandal. But in ethics and the Court of Public Opinion, all you need is the appearance of an impropriety...This is especially true when you consider that he will be the highest paid State of Tennessee employee. That was Currie's biggest mistake.

Also, if money isn't an issue, Lay down $7-8 million or more in front of some big established names like Peterson, Patterson, Dabo, and Jimbo, etc and see who takes the bait.

Butch Jones 2.0. Go hire your buddies whether they are qualified or not. Butch: Debord, Hoke and Scott. Currie heads right to his good friend Schiano. SOS. Currie should be gone soon.

I think you are right. He told on himself in his explanation. Saying how he had followed him and was friends with family.

Exactly, if he was going to hire Schiano he shouldn't have promised an explosive hire.

Should have told us he will interview the best coaches and make the best hire. In the process, release small leaks to let us know he is trying.

Instead, he led us to believe he was going to go big, but instead settled on his old friend Schiano.

Some of us were disappointed when Butch was hired, but we knew that our primary targets rejected us.

I feel no matter how many people I talk to, or how many times I type this it's not enough. I apologize. :)

I just have to vent.

What happened Sunday was the perfect storm.

If I were conspiring to destroy a football program, I don't think I could have devised a better plan.

I really don't suspect that there are sinister plans afoot here. It's just the good fortune of the 13 other SEC schools that Tennessee always seems to be suffering from the ineptitude of its leadership.

And vent all you want to, brother. It's therapeutic.

How does UT fix this problem?

1) ask for curries resignation now and he has 24 hrs max for a response.

2) if he says no, and you can’t fire him for money reasons- you cut him off and squeeze, and remove him from decisions

3) you promote or announce Fulmer acting ad and have him hire new coach. (This will settle down the fans)

4) you begin to figure out the best way to replace Beverly and that clueless vice chairman of the board who has been responsible for so much of the mess with our school
