I rode back to State of Franklin in Johnson City with half a handle of Tito’s in the back of a school bus with my wife and a couple of friends. 2 and a half hours later we were out Tito’s and still hadn’t gotten back to our hotel .

He had 2 SEC championship caliber football teams. You make the title game in those years vs *****ing the bed like he did and you turn the corner. Recruiting top 5 classes becomes normal. He has the opportunity in his hands and he squandered it.

He did somewhat. He turned us from a laughing stock to a mediocre team. He just couldn’t finish. No one can say Butch didn’t recruit talent though. We had everything lined up to go out and hire the best coach possible and as usual Tennessee made a mess of it.
