I know. Another qb thread. But I have a question for VN.

You “gave him to us”? We’ve been burying the lead all along! So you started your NON-BIASED TOTALLY OBJECTIVE thread with the express purpose of objectively deciding between Harrison Bailey and all his helpfully picked out defects pointed out by you and someone you personally GAVE TO US? I think when a self described fan who only advocates one player starts grading another with a lifetime stake in the program...you go with the actual fan. If Maurer is the best QB on the roster, I hope he runs away with the job. But it’s not either/or because you say so. You’re the worst kind of VISITOR...someone who promotes himself as a fan but isn’t. I don’t make decisions and neither do you. So there’s going to be no regret on my part. Time to acknowledge you’re simply a yapping voice in the peanut gallery.
So in your opinion it’s impossible for a program to gain a true fan if said fan began his fandom because of one player. Got it. You busted me butchna. I’m not a fan. But you better let all those people that started watching UT for Peyton Manning back in the 90s know that they’re not “fans” either. That may come as depressing news to them.

Terrell Owens clocked a 4.7 at the NFL Combine and that shocked me at the time. He was obviously faster than that in college and in his NFL careers. Running in shorts and away from linebackers are two different dynamics. Fact is, I don’t think anybody GETS FASTER. They just train better for the test. Similar to standardized tests. Dobbs from his Vols debut on played faster on the field than the bits we’ve glimpses from Maurer. Now can he train to dominate better in the Shorts Olympics? Prolly. You think he looks quick. I think everybody looks quicker than JG. Our eye tests aren’t science but they’re all we can comment on.
Football speed vs track speed is a real thing the two things do not always translate. Agree to disagree about athletes not getting faster through SEC strength and conditioning programs though. Funny story, way back in my playing days, I once played a football game against the fastest track star in the state. He scored on his first big run because I gave up after letting him get behind me. My teammates jumped me for a lack of effort when they noticed the same thing I did. I was actually faster on the football field. I shut him down the rest of the game but I know that he was faster in track but it did not translate onto the field.

I don't care how fast BM can run the 40. What I like is that he doesn't wait until everything has collapsed around him to take off. He sees an opportunity and he takes it. Looks pretty quick while doing so.

Now someone get him with a baseball coach and teach him to slide already.

My choice is HB, but I do think that BM is fun to watch and I appreciate the running ability.

The Peyton Manning fans that are still around 22 years after he left? Don’t feel the need. Let’s lower the bar and see if you’re still posting about anything two years after Brian leaves.

Exactly. There's "timed speed" and there's "football speed". Hell, we're talking football here not track. If Maurer pulls it down and runs, I like his chances against a DL or LB. If nothing else, get it back to the LOS and avoid a sack. This stupid notion that he might make some mistakes is asinine. JG leads the world in turnovers and missed receivers. How the he!! could Maurer be any worse? How could any of our qbs be any worse? Just blows my mind.

Cool story indeed. I don’t think slow players get fast or fast player get fastest. You learn to get the most of what you already have. Agree with the agreement to disagree.

But until then you’re going to be an ass? I’m done dude. Enjoy yourself

I like BM for his mobility but I would like to see more of HB and think that he is more athletic than some give him credit for. JMO.

HB

Highest rated, most time to develop, highest ceiling. The others can be really really good but I think HB could be great.

Go with Brian Mauer. He brings a spark to the offense when he enters the game.Keep Harrison working and give him some.serious snap time during games, not just mop up.JG an absolute.emergency entrance only.

We don’t have a player by that name on the roster.

It seems that VN is split between Maurer and Bailey which is what I expected. So here’s my next question which I intended to ask all along.

UT was never going to keep both. Both of them too good to ride pine behind the other. Assuming JG doesn’t come back next year I think it’s a safe bet that the coaches will have to choose between the two as well. With that being said it’s very possible UT will have to face one of them possibly every year.
Which one are you most willing to lose? And why?

BM transfers- 2
HB transfers-

Most good teams have more than one good qb. Look at bama. Tua started and Jones was the back up. Why would Bailey transfer if Maurer started? Most players expect to have to sit a year or 2. The early playing time pitch is for teams, like us, that don’t have enough depth.

What has worried me a lot since last year is that not a single QB on our roster has been able to unseat JG from the starting job. Bailey was slowed down (I guess) by COVID contact tracing that made him sit out 2 weeks or so of practice this year. Last season, Maurer couldn't wrest the starting spot from JG even when it was on a silver platter. Honestly, I am starting to worry that none of the QBs we have are very good -- either that, or they are severely mismanaged. Who knows?

Wow. A lot to unpack here. First off...why would you assume that Jg won’t be back. I’ve never seen anything like our coaches commitment to this qb. Pruitt’s entire legacy to this point is drug down into the gutter largely based off this one horrid decision he’s too arrogant (or worse, dumb) to change. Imagine if he’d have went with krist in year 1 and then had a legit competition and allowed someone else to win? His entire legacy would be different. Different in a very positive way. Anyway I digressed...the second assumption you made is that the qb that transfers will be facing us every year. We don’t know if either of them are sec caliber QBs. If so...just yet another indictment as to pruitts ability as he’s playing one that clearly isn’t. My guess is that bailey is an sec caliber player and will eventually win the job. That will likely mean maurer transfers. If so, who knows where he’ll end up or if he’d even win the job.

maurer has been hurt and we had a limited spring practice. this whole year has been jacked up. We needed spring practice more than a lot of teams To try to figure things out.

Too close in class. If Maurer got the nod Bailey only starts his senior season barring injury.

You are basically saying that you would transfer. Most players don’t transfer. They stay and compete.
