I waited a couple days on this because this one stuck for a while. My gut reaction Saturday night was like many of you. Pissed. Disbelief. Not wanting to believe anymore.

Observations:

1. Don't think Dobbs is as good or improved as we thought.
2. O line still has issues
3. We really aren't that deep yet
4. Shy and Kmac will be very good. Just not immediately
5. We were not aggressive coaching wise, offensively in the 2nd half
6. Overall pleasantly surprised by the defense
7. BGSU is very good offensively
8. We do in fact have a long way to go
9. I'm not sure how willing or able I am capable of being patient
10. We absolutely now have to beat Florida, which kind of sucks. The pucker factor is going to be sky high in 2 weeks
11. The refs were awful. Not an excuse, just fact
12. OU players have no class
13. Neyland was electric all night long way to go fans, it was noticeable on the broadcast

The margin for error is so small for this team. One play in the second half deals the game for the Vols. The problem is there were a number of "one plays" that we just didn't make.

We're going to get there. It just sucks that we, as fans, still have to watch heartbreaking losses like this one.

Good observations.. Think the Florida game is a must win regardless of the outcome of the OU game.. Coaches definitely need to loosen the reigns on offense.. If I'm going to get knocked out, I'd rather go down swinging than avoiding the punch.. Doesn't seem to sting as bad afterwards..

As all combat veterans know, the pucker factor is that moment you are so tense from fear or anxiousness or both that your @#&Hole tightens up so much a straight pin can't get through there.

Dobbs wasn't good enough, but If they let him throw in more running situation, instead of waiting for 2nd or 3rd and long, he may be more effective. They were scared to do so after we grabbed the lead.

If Alex Ellis catches that downfield pass, which was well thrown, that game is basically over.

Two things that frustrated me:
WRU was not a big factor. I was expecting a lot of yardage out of Pig, North, Pearson, Jennings and company.
Secondly, we chased the QB all over the backfield numerous times but couldn't put him on the ground. It cost us.

I believe this is someone old enough to remember the Florida battles between Spurrier & Fulmer. Many of our players after they graduated said the coaching staff was never loose that week. Fulmer would always be so tight with all approaches, when typically handled things a different way.

The biggest problem with fandom is so much of the optimism is based on hope not necessarily on fact. When things don't go as we hope, it gets ugly. The game was a pick 'em and it was tied at the end of regulation. UT just came out on the losing end by not taking advantage of a few opportunities.

Case in point. Had Mayfield's pass that TKjr intercepted been 6 inches higher, he takes it to the house and UT is up 24-3. UT would have won the game and no one is complaining about Dobbs, DeBord, playcalling, etc.

Not passing to the WRs a lot more was a mistake I can't defend. I was yelling for that in the 3rd Qtr.

Losing d-line player after d-line player before the season even began...costs. Fresher legs in the 4th might have brought that QB down.

That game had a million "ifs." OU must have used up it's allotment of luck.

I totally agree!
There was a handful of plays that win us the game.
A made fg, one of 3 pass interference calls,one less three and out, one stop on 3rd down, one stop on fourth down, one more score, one sack that was missed, I could go on and on!
The fact of the matter is it didn't happen, but there was not one sec during that game that I thought we were going to lose, even overtime, and I believe the players felt the same way. I can't say that in the last few years. It didn't feel like the Florida game last year. The defense played a hell of a game, and anybody that says they blew it in the last 8 minutes is:1: out of their mind, 2: didn't watch the game, or 3: has no clue about football! Yea the defense was out there late in the foyrth, and came up with stop, after stop,and Oklahoma made plays.
I'm excited about this team. The VOLS are gonna win some big games this year! Get in board.

To be fair...after CPF beat Bama the 1st time, the pucker factor went away, but it never did for UF.

The coaching staff response to the post game fallout ….. be patient . Well that's hard to do after watching the second half collapse of a winnable game. Our weapons were neutralized by the play calling.

The biggest issues in the game were lack of aggressive play calling once we took the lead and poor tackling on defense.

Dobbs didn't look great under the defensive pressure but receivers weren't exactly wide open either. I would have liked to have seen more Kamara but Hurd played well.

In the end the defense wore out, they lost a lot of guys to injuries and suspensions in preseason and since and just aren't as deep as needed.

I was disappointed in the loss as any fan would be, but it was not the end of the world, it is NOT a reason to fire anyone or lose faith in anything. It's one game with a young team that is still not deep at all. There is no magic dust. We beat a great team week 1 who trounced Maryland. We lost to a great team in week 2 that some have picked to go to the playoffs. The sky is not falling.

(1) Dobbs had a bad game, just like he did against Missouri last season.

(2) rumor has it that the Offensive Co Ordinator wants to start all freshmen on the O Line but he and bUTch are arguing about it. Off Co knows we can't win with this current O Line and that the freshmen are better.

(3) I am happy about our depth. Compare it to the first bUTch was here.

(11) Yep! The refs were horrible. No way they make mistakes and miss that many calls. Some had to be intentional.
