I just do not understand why Hamilton is forcing the old staff on a new coach?

I just do not understand why Hamilton is so stubborn that he is requesting a new coach take on the old staff? This is seriously hindering the hire of a quality coach. As a Gator I honestly feel bad for UT. I knew the Lame Kitten hire was going to be bad. I never liked that sob when he was on the Jaguars staff. He has gotten every break because of his father. UT is a top 10 program in America and to settle on Dooley who 17-20 in the last 3 seasons is just terrible. UT could of had a few of the coaches mentioned on this board, but Hamilton had a stipulation of keeping the old staff that killed it. Before someone makes some stupid comments because I am a Gator, I just want to say that I have been to Knoxville for a few games and the Vol fans have been nothing but class. Hope it works out for UT.

On CSS SportsNite, they explained that UT has six coaches left from Lane Kiffen's staff. They supposedly cannot afford to buy out all of these coaches' salaries and pay for new coaches.

Apparently this was the sticking point for Cutcliffe, and maybe others...

Can't afford? What the hell are we? Carson Newman all of a sudden?

These guys buyouts amount to 1.5 mill. Kiffin and Orgeron are paying us over 1mill combined.

Well if anything I applaud MH for at least thinking about them and not pulling a Lame and throw them under the bus to. I mean the player will still play and fans still come but for those left behind by Lame they really don't know. Mh could have said whatever you want Wil, or Cut or whomever and said "see ya staff, nice working with you" but he didn't.

Lane Kiffin was probably one of the best COACHING RECRUITERS I've seen. I'm more than happy to keep most of those coaches on staff. They were extremely talented.

They may bring more experience, or different NFL experience, than Dooley has. As long as there are not any personality conflicts, it should be good to go.

Well, thanks for the support my friend. People have been supportive through the whole mess. I'm glad that they retained Kippy actually, he is top notch. With that being said, restricting any coach in that fashion usually turns out to be a disaster. Sadly, you really don't know what a person is capable of until they get complete control and are able to make their own decisions.

Applaud him if you want, but it's the contracts they don't want to terminate. They would have to pay the remaining salary left on them, then hire new coaches. I think it's piss poor management, but applaud away.

There are some damn fine assistants still here that should not be tossed out without carefully thinking about it. Brown, Chaney, and Thompson could get hired anywhere in the country.

I don't know if it was Cregg, Browning or Chaney, but whoever worked with the line this year on run blocking should stay. The line was depleted and yet it was some of the best run blocking our Oline has had in quite a while.

and as soon as they did, we would not have to pay them

CDD needs to hire his own staff, that does not mean that some current staff would not be retained. They are good coaches and CDD will see that when he meets them.

Well the way I look at it is: If you hire a new chef, he should have complete control of all the ingredients. I do not buy the cost either. UT's athletic budget is huge. I think it is in the top 5, heck it maybe in the top 2. Like I said earlier, you guys are better off without Kiffen. The guy is a spoiled jerk and he will get his at USC. I thought it would be cool to hire Leach or Muschamp and publicallly challenge USC to home and home. Talk about positive exposure for UT!! Could you imagine?

I am pretty sure Dooley would of retained Lance no matter what, same with Kippy. Cregg did great things with the Oline, so he should be retained. Willie Mack was severely limited with his safeties due to Monte's philosophy. We need to find a great D-line coach fast.

I like the fact that we can keep the staff that's already here. We all know that they are top notch coaches just look at their resume and that saves time and money. However, on the other hand I do see what you're saying, but the staff that's left is just too good to throw away IMO.

I agree with this, and it was better than what Cutcliff was going to bring in.

why let them go when they were great coaches last year? This will help keep some of the recruiting class and why would you want to just pay 3 milliion in salaries over the next 2 years and them not coach for TN? Lets get behind our New Coach and GO BIG ORANGE!!!!!

This is easy to answer...Because Hamilton is lots smarter than you apparently are, Scott.

I think the athletic department ranks somewhere around 7 or 8 in terms of revenue. I recall that tOSU, LSU, UF, the other UT, USC and maybe Stanford were all ahead of the Vols.

However, you are correct, there is plenty of money there. I think it is more about the quality of the coaches.

BS on we cant afford to buy out those contracts!! Our athletic department is a top 10 money maker in the country. I hope Dooley becomes a great coach and will support him no matter what but I think Hamilton needs to get the AX!!!!

Keeping the coaches who remained, all of which didn't jump ship with Lame should help us salvage some of the recruiting class who they had relationships with.

Agree we have good coaches left but Hamilton doesnt need to handcuff our new HC to much. After all he signed on when 7-8 other coaches wouldnt. Gotta let the guy run the team his way and build his own staff.
