Apples to Oranges.

Another OMG thread.

He was forced to hire Clawson because of boosters disgruntlement with CDC.

CDC more than likely would have fixed the situation if given the time but the fans and boosters wanted the change and it happened.

Help me as my memory ain't so good. David Cutcliffe was OC prior to Clawson, correct? You said Clawson was a result of boosters disgruntlement with CDC (Dave Cutcliffe?)

yes David Cutciffe was OC prior to Clawson...wish I had never mentioned the Sky Box or other conversation and sorry for doing so.....I know Duke played into it...but back door dynamics play into it also.......CFP had huge support in the ranks that began to undermine him.

Sanders was OC

Prior to Clawson, David Cutcliffe was the OC... left in 2007, hired by Duke.

Domino effect, Money Cut for new OC hire, left with few choices, Fulmer on the hot Seat 2007 5 games into the season.

Agree mostly with this. But we leave too many people unblocked in our offensive schemes this year also. We are not great at blocking but other teams are bringing more than we have in many instances and JG’s inability to read defenses does not compensate. KC picked up the defense when he came in against Bama and threw 2 TD’s.

On defense we seem to leave receivers completely uncovered and too slow to adjust to routes. Sometimes I wonder just what Pruitt is trying to do? Just does not look like a sound strategy.
Not sure either. I want to believe that they made a strategic decision to invest in JG because it was "close" between the two. KC definitely made some pre-snap reads in his few competitive snaps that we haven't seen from JG. The examples vs Bama stand out. But JG is more physically gifted. There's no doubt about that. The question is can he be coached up and grow mentally into a good QB. I have had doubts since he first took over as starter and still have them.

Not sure on D either. I want to believe that he's insisting on a style of play that he doesn't have the players to do well yet. To support that... I look at what Shoop did before and after UT. OTOH, it is possible that Pruitt has just been carried by great talent in his previous stops and isn't that "special" as a D coach. We'll see. I like Pruitt so I really hope he succeeds. There have been flashes on D though. At times they've been really good.

He was forced to hire Clawson because of boosters disgruntlement with CDC. I heard one conversation in a the sky box with Hamilton and witnessed another in person. Gone.

CDC more than likely would have fixed the situation if given the time but the fans and boosters wanted the change and it happened.

In doing so, it lead to the choking of the chicken, the hiring, departures, of coaches and staff which led us where we are today.

Have another drink and think about it.....You may need a case.
Cut left on his own to take a HC job. Lots of people criticized the "dink and dunk"... but given what Cut had to work with it was a pretty impressive showing.

Clawson wasn't the problem. He was the unwitting fall guy. Fulmer stayed past the point he should have. He hired an up and comer to take over an O that had very, very little talent.

I know you know....and agree Fulmer was gone before he was fired....Cutcliffe did wonders with what he had to work with on the roster at times. Great Coach.... The AD was all about the money and the OC hire monies were not there to restore Fulmer's Career and they were not going to be.....lingering death....

I Hope CJP doesnt fall to the same mistakes that CPF made before he was let go !! I agree that CPF should have been given opportunity to make another change from the bad hire he made on Dave Clawson - CPF was too loyal when it came to his staff IMO ... and im afraid this couild come back to haunt CJP .... his hire of Will Friend ( his lifelong buddy ) and his whole Offensive staff is in question - just the mistakes are tremendous - starts with OL ... granted they are short some guys but no excuse for penalties - now if they cant block and are weak and cant move thats all got to be corrected in recruiting and workouts but dicipline is coaching and Will Friend has not got it done ... will CJP be able to make a tough call when time comes ... ??? The guy was at Colorado St .. really .... along with that he hires a TE Coach ..never been a on field coach I dont think ( good recruiter - so I can kive with that - TE is one position) - RB - Coach Chris Wienke ( he has done OK ) - WR Coach - I really like ..I think they have improved ... and give effort ... now the OC - Helton - while I think the QB position has improved its hard to judge ..I think he can call a good game if he has all the pieces helping him - how cohesive is this Offensive staff in working together .. but hard to get anything done with our OL - feel sorry for Guarantano - kid is tough as nails - nobody on OL has pancaked a DL in forever ... its just not got a attitude of dominance ....

Hopefully our fans will learn from our past before calling for coaches heads. (Fulmer)

FFS, can we let him recruit and finish a couple seasons?

The last three idiots we had for AD didn't know what a good football coach was. At least CPF knows. I'll defer to him and CJP to make this team competitive and bring the Vols back to prominence. BEATUK
Jimmy Haslam didn’t know what a good AD was/is either

Fulmer's biggest problem by far why was that he grew very complacent with his earlier success. I hope that Pruitt has the kind of success with which he has the possibility of becoming complacent.

Even Clawson wasn’t a bad coach. He brought in a new system that was going to take two years to install and recruit for.

Phil would have fixed it and we in two years.

We do need to recruit better than we are on both lines, but you have got to show the kids something following 0 wins sec season. The KY game helps. We should have beaten SC.

I like CJP and believe he will get it done. Recruiting next year will predict his future.

You do realize that bama had already put it in cruise control when KC came in the game don’t you?

The issue with OL started becoming a problem while Cut was OC. Vols couldn’t run for squat in 2007 despite having Arian Foster and Mario Hardesty.
