I can't say that I know for sure what the future holds for this football program if it's good or bad. I' am not God I don't have that power but if our better days are truly behind us for whatever reason I can honestly say I have seen it all. 31 of my 40 years on this earth I have been watching Tennessee play football. I have had the opportunity to see this once storied program win a national title and 2 SEC titles. I have seen us recruit at the absolute top where we were in everyone top 5. Many people would say it's just a game and what not but too Tennessee fans we just seem to hold it a little more to our hearts for some reason. So like I said I can't tell the future but if our better days are truly behind us I was one of the lucky ones to get to see it all. GO BIG ORANGE.

Growing up in the 90s, I wondered how bad it would suck to have to pull for a Vanderbilt or the like. Today my 5 year old asked my why Tennessee is the team that always has to lose.........
I know how you feel my wife family is Alabama fans and I have a 6 yr old daughter and a 4 yr old son needless to say they may never understand why I' am a Tennessee fan.

I'm right there with you glad I got to see the good times. Its really been frustrating how its become the empty shell it once was.i really dont know what its going to take to turn it around, but I truly know one thing what's been tried the last 4 times hasn't worked. Its going to take someone who has gotten real results and not guessing how to do it no more experiments we can't afford it

I’ve got you by 25 years. I’ve been a fan for 56 or 57 years. I agree with you 100%

Every team goes through this at one time or another. Maybe the great teams don't usually have a 15 year bad stretch, but 10 years isn't uncommon. I once read an article asking the poignant question "Will Alabama ever beat Tennessee again?".
Very true but until our A.D whoever that may be is willing to make that big time hire the thought of us over coming is very questionable not saying it can't be done but very questionable.

Bama was saying the same prior to Saban arriving. They had not won anything since the early 90's and we had been kicking the crap out of them. Just takes the right coach, staff and a great QB, and we are right back in the hung!

Common denominator for all the teams that have been in the CFB playoffs since 2014. GREAT QB's on every team! Dabo is not a great coach, he's a great manager, recruiter and motivator.

Very much so and I agree BUT with that being said I do not believe that the powers that be are going to allow it to happen. I believe that it has been proved through some of the decision made that the University and A.D department knows that Tennessee doesn't have to be successful to make money and that is all they care about. There is no denying that Tennessee can be great or that we have what it takes but I just believe that the upper power is never going to make that hire that gets us over the top they have just proved it way to many times.

All through out the late 1990s and early 2000's there weren't strong coaches at UGA, Bama. We didn't have Oregon and Oklahoma on noncons schedule. Clemson was down.
A lot of the recruits that are going to Bama, UGA, and Clemson now were going to UT back then.
So many variables. So much had changed.

With that said. UT has still been able to recruit competitively. The coaching is where we fall short. Fulmer had two good coordinators and he was a recruiting monster. And the conference wasn't strong in coaching like it became with the arrival of Steve Spurrier at USC and Urban Meyer in 2005 at UF. 2007 Saban arrives!
2008 Fulmer is gone... just like that.

So we really just need a proven innovative Head Coach to get back to those 10 win minimum seasons.

Hugh Freeze i believe is a stong candidate for that.

I agree very much with you post and it is very accurate and yes Hugh Freeze is my top choice that I believe we could get at a good price and he could help us out a lot in returning to where we were. With that being said as I have stated as well as many other poster have our A.D no matter who it is has made it very clear that they refuse to make a hire that would allow us to return to our glory days. We have now been at this point for 15 years and they cont. to ignore everything a around them acting as if they have all the answer when clearly they don't. They talk the talk with no desire to actually do it.

I transferred to the university of Tennessee in 2006. I never got to see anything except for an SEC East championship, and I didn’t even go to Atlanta because I assumed we’d be back the next year...biggest football fandom mistake I ever made.

I think we’re going to eventually find the guy that returns Tennessee to glory. It might not even be the next hire...or the one after that....but I am confident that Tennessee will eventually be a competitive football program again.

If we hired Hugh Freeze, I’m saying with about 70% certainty that he’d be the guy. He’s the only coach on the radar that I think that could make it happen.
