I Have No Problem...

If those of us who supported Kiffin during the last year are honest, we knew that he is an immature self-promoter who has not yet proven himself to be a first-rate football coach. We told everyone that he was a great coach because we hoped that he would be one day. We defended his antics around the coffee pot at work, explaining that he was intentionally being outragious to bring attention to out football program. But the truth is that we were fools for being so blind to what was so obvious to outsiders -- Kiffin never had much regard for the integrity of this university and NCAA sanctions were sure to come our way if he stayed. Tennessee football will endure long after Kiffin.

I'm one of those lurkers. i don't post that much, usually some has said what I am thinking so why say it again.

Like hat, I don't have a problem with kiffin leaving. I have a small problem with the timing. I have a little larger problem with orgeron calling the freshman and telling them not to go to class to make it easier to transfer IMO that is classless.

Chalk this up to an overdeveloped sense of integrity & fair play.

I'd have to draw the line with calling the EE's and telling them not to go to class.

Otherwise, if your heart isn't in Knoxville, there is no sense sticking around regardless of the timing. I'm sure we can find a few qualified coaches interested in the gig.

It's about priorities. He legitimately doesn't give a damn what people think about him, so he couldn't care less about preparing for press conferences. They don't win him football games or get him jobs. Recruiting and interviews do.

If he doesn't give a damn, why was his face red and why was he sweating the questions so much? I would think if he didn't care, he would have been much more composed. Btw, 12-21 includes his "successful" stint with the Raiders.

Excellent post! Could we get you to do some private counseling for Hat? :)

I really don't have a problem with him leaving for the USC job. It was what he wanted from day 1 and we all knew it. It was also an upgrade for him (at least at this present time). Everyone on here knew that was the one job he would go after if it came available. The timing was what surprised everyone. And besides all that, Lane is Lane, most loved him for who he was before he left so there is no sense hating him for it now. Now as for Ed, working for the University of TN to get recruits and then at the last minute trying to get them to come to USC (inevitably helping to destroy the future of TN football is terrible and will not be forgotten).

Nothing blind about it on my end. The product on the field was improved, and they pushed the recruiting envelope as far as they could. It was always a risk/reward situation.

It's no secret that Kiffin was not the first choice for SC. Maybe 3rd or 4th as they had already been rejected by the top of their short list right down the line till it got to LK. They were desperate and trying to save face in the last hour. The fact that he was not highly sought after leads me to believe we won't miss a whole lot.

Nothing EO does should surprise anyone. He had baggage when we got him. The whole Hurricane Katrina recruiting thing he did took the cake. He's crooked bottom line. You'll love him while he's on your side, but hate him when he ain't!

Kiffin had the perfect opportunity to change his whole image. He was/is already a multi-millionaire, but had questionable character and moral issues. He could have changed all that in one day...

"USC contacted me about their head coaching job. Although it is a job I have coveted all my life, I didn't feel it was right to leave Tennessee and my new football family and recruits after just one year. Tennessee made a commitment to me and I made a commitment to them".

He could have owned the state, earned respect of other SEC schools, and changed his image all at once! Of course he took the worst possible road and this Gator Fan feels badly for Vol Nation which deserved way better. And Kiffin's questionable character only gets worse - something Kiffin himself apparently couldn't care less about.

All he had to say was "That's a question you'll have to ask Coach Orgeron." I'm always amazed how poorly prepared for press conferences public figures usually are.

Yes, especially when Coach O was sitting right there, and all Lane had to do was lean over and say, "Is that true?!"

It's amazing that he can look like that at a presser, yet he sells so well with recruits and obviously interviews insanely well.

That's because he's dealing with teenagers one on one, or at worst, with a couple of family members around when he's recruiting.

When he's at a presser, he's got hundreds, thousands, if not millions, of brains fact-checking his sorry bvtt.

Con artists like doing their work in private.

I have no problem that he left. I understand capitalism and people leave for what they view as better opportunties for themselves all the time. I have no problem that I or anyone supported him while he was here even though most all of us understood he lacked character. But he's gone now. I am not going to read about him or hear about him, or USC. I want to read and hear about the University of Tennessee and our forward plans/actions.
