7 and 5 or 6 and 6. The reason being is that our injuries are piling up and there are always some that occur during the season. I still feel pretty good about our starters minus the receiver position until Jones and Moore get back but the fact is we have very little depth in some key places, offensive line, defense, with the exception of defensive backs. So, while I am optimistic that we could win 8 games, and if very healthy 9, I now say 7 and 5 and hope not 6 and 6. But, I can't wait to be there Sept. 5 and all other home games as well as going to Tuscaloosa for the first time! GO VOLS!

Offensive line has been my biggest area of concern. If the starters cant pass block or give Crompdaddy any time, argh. Not to mention if they get hurt (I shouldnt say it), we are really screwed. I would love to have Jones and Moore back asap, but even when they are fine Moore wouldnt have run in about 2 months, and Jones will be in walking boot for weeks. Gerald will be more fresh, but more will just be out of it. Other than that I feel the positions are ok. I will have to see the first game or two to decide for myself what positions need more depth.

Linebackers and WR's will be big weaknesses for this team.

The wide receiver position is really sub par. There is not one experienced, SEC caliber receiver. A converted tight end who seems to be very inconsistent in all aspects of preparation and play making, seniors who haven't really done too well in their previous careers and then you have a couple true freshmen who are just that. True freshmen who are small and really not ready to be high performers against upper classmen in the SEC. These receivers are not like true freshman Julio Jones or AJ Green who were both physically ready. However, I think Kiffin will use Teague and Nukeese in ways that they will get the ball in space and make plays and that will help them along.

Linebackers are very young and inexperienced besides Rico and have a ways to go to be Elite SEC level.

After watching the scrimmage this past Saturday, I have increased my expectated wins. I was encouraged by the determination of the players to make the play, and by their intensity level. There are several freshman that look like they can contribute immediately. I'm thinking 8 wins....minimum. :dunno:

The way I see it:

Games UT will be favored in and should win: W. Kentucky, Ohio, Memphis, Kentucky

Games UT should be favored in but could lose: UCLA, Auburn, USCe, Vandy

Games UT will not be favored that could be wins: UGA, Ole Miss

Games that UT won't win without a miracle (I'll be cheering for the W): Florida, Bama

Based on that, I think they win all 4 from the first group, 3/4 from the second group and 1/2 from the third group, while going 0/2 from the last group.

This would result in a 8-4 regular season and make me extremely happy with the new coaching staff.

I believe that anything can happen, and I'll be cheering for 12-0 with wins over UF and Bama, but I believe my estimation above is much more realistic.

I will admit I have not seen any scrimmages. I have loved EVERYTHING I have read about this camp. I think it has been a great one and I truly feel our coaching staff, if we stay out of NCAA trouble and I think we will, will lead us back to national prominence. There is no reason they should not. HOWEVER, I am trying to be realistic and remember Rome wasn't built in a day, and I just see too many question marks this year to compete for the SEC title. While I have been impressed with what I read about the scrimmages I also have to keep in mind that we are playing ourselves and we were 5 and 7 a year ago. I also think before it is over this will be a freshmen class that will be judged to be great! If they are great this year, then 8 - 9 wins is possible but that's asking a lot.

I am in total agreement with your assessment. That is how I had them. I have predicted a 2-0 start all summer long because I think we will be better than UCLA. recent injuries truly make this game a toss up and that was a win I was counting among my original 8. Not to mention that I had wins against Auburn and South Carolina and they are toss ups as well.

Vols will go 9-3 gentlemen. That's 8 that they should win and 1 out of the 4 (UGA probably) that UT will be a decided underdog------although that could change if Ga stumbles out of the gate----(Dogs could start out 2-2).:clapping::clapping::clapping:

I would be extremely happy and I hope you are right but I just don't see it. I hope I have to eat crow. 9 - 3 would put us in a great bowl game as well which would be fun. Either way, I will be there early on September 5th! Can't wait to get to my parking garage, the vol walk, the band, the stadium, and can't wait to hear Rocky Top Many times!

"Expectated?" Is that an amalgamation of expected and expectation?

Ole Miss is on the border of group 3 and the last group IMO. Of the 3 (UF, Bama, OM) though, I think that would be the best chance to win.

I agree. I also look at it the way:

Defense was one of the best in the nation last year. I don't see a major falloff this year.

Kicking game last was awful. Based on info coming from practices, it sounds like we should be better. It is my understanding that scrimmage 4 will be mostly special teams so we should have a better idea come Saturday.

Offense ranked number 115 last year. They seem to be building confidence. We are all excited about the prospects with our running game. In my mind the be question is can the passing game be serviceable. It doesn't have to be great. If we could get in the top 50 in total offense, 8-4 would be very doable.

I have lowered my expectations of the posters in here.:)

Agree... I dont understand how some of you can lower your expectations for the season because of injurys. There have been no serious injurys that have occured. G Jones will be out 3-6 and D Moore i think will miss the first 3 or 4 games. But some of yall are acting like there all-american wideouts that put up unbelievable numbers last year. I think we will be just fine with Warren, Hancock, Nukeese, and Teague. I think we will win at least 9 games.

losing our center who has started 30+ games is a big loss., especially with our severe lack of OL depth

I agree with your estimates. I would love to jump on board the 8-4 bandwagon, but I feel they will lose one they should win (7-5). I hope not, but it is just a gut feeling.
