Figuring roughly 70K at the game = 30000+ empty seats. Multiply by two drinks and dogs ($15) = $450000. . . .for one game. Suddenly, over time, a contract buyout and a high-dollar coach doesn't seem like such a ridiculous sum of money. This doesn't even account for merchandise. I don't have any way to quantify how much money is being lost right now, but I'm sure that Hounddogs, McMillian's, Tennessee Traditions, et al are feeling the crunch.
The value of "empty seats" has immeasurables, as well. The University doesn't want to see its partially-renovated stadium 1/4 empty, which is about what I expect Saturday.
It's painful to miss out on one of my few guilty pleasures, but I'm willing to endure a little bit more than some in hope of greener pastures. Nothing makes me sicker than the loser-mentality of "who you gonna get" or "just wait until Fulmer's gone."
My point is that, like Alabama in the "lean years," we know what championship-caliber football is all about, and I'm willing to do my part to get there again.

Northern Illinois Student Football purchaser:
According to our records, you purchased a Northern Illinois student football ticket for this weekend’s game and have not picked it up. They are available in the Office of the Dean of Students, located at 413 Student Services Building, behind Circle Park. You will need your student id to pick it up. If you do not get it by 5 pm tomorrow (Friday) afternoon, you forfeit the ticket.
Very well put, I try to make @ least 2 home games a year and the Athens game but not this year, wow the wasted talent,It still turns my stomach..............
You probably could have said that better by posting a Dilbert cartoon.
I thought his avatar was a Dilbert cartoon...
. . . .Without words.
The past few weeks in Knoxville have been filled with frustration, bullheadedness, finger-pointing, arguing, lame excuses, false promises, and (worst of all) apathy amongst the Vol Faithful. However, it is quite unreasonable for me to believe that my name on some internet petition, a huffy e-mail to MH, or trying to squeeze a phone call into Vol Calls between the blind sheep will effect change.
Therefore, I will make my feelings known on Saturday with four empty seats in section D. There will be no boos, taunts, bird-flipping, or objects thrown. But, there will also be no cheering, orange-and-white shakers, or overpriced concession consumption. . . .just bare, silent aluminum bleachers.
Not to sound too melodramatic, but this has been a very difficult decision for me. I would be lying if I said that UT football wasn't part of the reason I chose to move back to the Knoxville area to start my practice. I haven't missed a home game since my return, and my tailgate preparation lasts from Thursday night until Sunday. I used to drive up from Florida at least once a fall and have visited many of the other SEC stadiums in support of the Vols. I have a Tennessee Orange exam room, boat, pool table, bathroom, and boxers. To say that I'm anything but a true fan approaches insulting my family.
I'm all Vol, but I'm also sick of mediocrity, and this is the only way that I know to show it.
Cool.. D Section... 4 seats
I may look for them and sit there... They're A LOT Better than the seats I have
If I had a kiddie, I would take him/her to you. You seem to have a finger on the pluse of the situation. Money talks.. . . .Without words.
