The loss to Florida just took all the fun out of the season. I haven't been easy on Dooley but it is a shame we have people calling for his head after the first loss of the season. We just lost a game in which we blew a touchdown lead late in the 3rd quarter. Does anyone remember the score in the 3rd quarter last year? 30-7 Gators. "But Justin Hunter was hurt and we weren't the same" We didn't have Da'Rick this year and he's just as big of a stud as Hunter. What haters fail to see is the development of the players. The Vols have a lot of NFL talent. Only a few would be high draft picks now, but there are 10 starters that will be drafted at some point:

Bray
Hunter
Patterson
Richardson
James
Rivera
Neal
Smith
Johnson
Maggitt

UT is a much better team that a year ago. Dooley and his staff are doing a very good job developing the players and recruiting very well. The depth and talent is starting to show. Last year the game would have been over after Bray's first pick. This year they were able to score 14 straight as well as hold UF to a FG on 2 1st and goals before the half. Florida is a good team. They looked bad in week 1 but just won 2 HUGE road games. I wish we could have played the UF team from week 1 but teams get better like the Vols will. But of course, nobody cares about that because the only thing that matters is getting beat badly in the 2nd half. Every game from here on out is going to end that way, right? No. The Vols still have 9 games left, 5 big ones and if they can find a way to win 2, which is very possible, we are looking at a 8 win season which is way better than a year ago. This fan base has so many dumb rednecks that act we should be winning 10 games this year. Deal with reality, we don't beat UF every year.

Remember 2005, bad year, no bowl. 2006 started with a big win and we blew a 10 point 2nd half lead to Florida. At one point we were in the top 10 at 7-1 and our only loss was to the eventual conference and national champions before Ainge got hurt. We had a talented junior QB and bunch of solid players. Sounds like the start of this year. I'm not saying the same thing is going to happen, but too many people are throwing in the towel after the first loss. Dooley had us ranked for the 1st time since 2008. We got gameday and more national exposure that we did when Kiffin bolted. This time is was positive. The program is clearly on the rise, if you can't see it you are delusional. And like I said in the thread title, I've been a Dooley hater at times, but he's got some good things going on.

The fact he can't win with all that talent makes it even worse since it was a young inexperienced UF team.

First year he had a lot of freshmen, Kiffin leftovers and some of Fulmer players. 2nd year hardly and Fulmer players, fewer Kiffin guys and more freshmen and 1st year starters. This is year 1 with experience and depth, he's 2-1. Season isn't over. Vols will still have a lot of big games they can win. They won't beat Bama, nobody will, but it will be a measuring stick. UGA, Miss State, USC and Mizzou are all games they can win.

Culbreath4Heisman you are thinking way to rationally for this forum...

I agree 100% with what you are saying.

Dooley has brought integrity back to the ball team, something we didn't have under CPF and CLK.

Then why have you "been a Dooley hater"? Maybe because he can't coach?

Will giving Dooley ten years to get us back in the top ten satisfy you guys? How about 20 years? Bama and the hogs turned their programs around in 2 years. Are their schools that much more desireable to top players than UT?

Let's wait and evaluate this season after we have more tests under our belts. I for one am hoping Dooley finally gets that statement win in 2 weeks.

Because I couldn't see any of the things that are clear now. The team is way better than a year ago. We could go an entire year without playing a freshman QB. It easy to pay attention to the win/loss colum and point differentials but improvement will show up other places before it shows up there. We could very easily lose the next 4 games. Last year it would be a given and it would be by double digit scores. Vols should play well in all 4 games. But like I said originally fans are acting like the season is over after 1 loss. Talented teams lose sometimes. Mizzou lost their huge SEC opener in similar fashion. Are they throwing in the towel on the year? No. Too many Vol fans expect way too much.

OP, it doesn't matter what you say, Vol Nation is going to be divided on this topic. I hope Dooley goes 8-1 or 7-2 the rest of the way to see what they'll say.

For the record, I have enjoyed having a little bit more hope from year to year under Dooley. I was very skeptical of the hire, and thought it was bad news for us. But here comes a guy from Louisiana Tech, taking over a no win situation. He has replenished the pantry to get us back to where we can at least be competitive. I thought he needed 4 years minimum with all of the problems that faced this team. This is only his 3rd season, and we've already drawn national attention and gotten Gameday.

I believed we would win Saturday, but I really underestimated Florida. Driskell played better than I would have dreamed he could, which also helped open up the run for Florida (although the lack of containment was inexcusable). The Gameday analysts didn't think we would win. They said defense and a running game would be the difference. Wouldn't you know they called it from a mile away. They are still impressed by us however, and we should be proud of our team too.

This is exactly why you don't walk in to this game with a W already written down... Because then you have everybody thinking,"we should've won that game" and now that becomes the new standard... Fire a guy because we hadn't beaten a team in the last 8 years, 3 of which he's been a part of.... And this was probably our only real shot at that team in the last 8 years...

We still have a good team and I am confident that this team can do some great things... For example, I feel like we still have a good chance at beating USCe and MSU

1. Who said we need to give him 10 years? He isn't half way through this 3rd season yet.
2. Bama turned their program around because they have the best coach in college football. There is no way to argue around that. Arkansas happened in 2 years. Not every program goes from bad to BCS in two years. Also again, he has only been here for a little less than 2.5 years.
3. The amount of schools that are more desireable than UT would blow your mind. To a recruit not from Tennessee, there could be up to 7 in the SEC alone.

I like the direction we are heading, and think that CDD has done as good of a job as anyone could have considering the circumstances. We will have a great 3-4 defense once they get everything worked out. Our run games is getting better every day. Yes we have a loss, but our fan base is supposed to be one of the best in the country, and im very happy to be part of it. Go Vols

I don't disagree with a lot of your post, but it really is simple. Dooley has 8 games to show that he can take this talent and win some ballgames in this league. I hope for the best, but cannot say that my confidence is very high based on the past.

This team needs a breakout, signature victory over Georgia in a bad way. A loss there and to Alabama, though, and I can see a repeat of last season where they mailed it in. We'll see....

Not to mention at Mississippi State in between. Lose that and it's going to get pretty ugly.

This is dead on, I think. This team has to continue to improve for Hart.

At this point Hart is just a Rorschach test. Everyone who thinks Dooley needs to be fired looks at what Hart has said and sees a businesslike, put-up-or-shut-up approach. Everyone who thinks Dooley deserves more time looks at those same comments and sees nothing but support.

Both schools did have brand new football facilities just finish. UT had just started building our new facilities at that time. I could see an
18 year old want to go to a school with new facilities over a school where they were just starting them

these people setting mattress factories aflame all have one thing in common... the exact opposite thing going on in your post. A complete and utter lack of logic. They want the team to win and win now, period. None of them can see or even have it explained to them that it is not possible.

No coach or coaching staff could turn this team around as fast as people want/expect. But Dooley has done an amazing job getting us on the path to recovery. If people would calm down and let the process complete we end up fine. Thing is that ain't gonna happen so all we can do is keep trying to open eyes and when people post moronic vitriol point out the flaws.

People love to point out Dooley's record....most other coaches put in his same position would have had a hard time doing much better but most fans are regular people and most people are complete and utter idiots who do not understand that the most dangerous thing is a "fact" used out of context.
