I don't know why but I have a feeling that we will be better than most think. Just because we don't have some of our players that either graduated or was drafted doesn't necessarily mean we will regress. I believe this may be the year that a number of players we've been waiting to "break out" will indeed do that. I know its been said over and over again but this upcoming season has a similar feeling to the 1998 season. "Knock on wood" but we have been spared major injuries thus far, have some good depth at certain position groups and have had time to sit and think about last year. I don't know what it is but their seems to be a quite calm with this years team which I haven't seen since 98. I could be wrong in the fact that some think butch has reached his ceiling and all, but judging by the hires he made in the off season I think he may be ready to take the next step as well. Now I'm not a D4H guy who jumps at the opportunity to boast and brag because "I know so much about football" (No offense D4H) but I have a genuine feeling about our 2017 Vols. If the stars align and things come together like I think it can then we may have a special season. I had this same feeling when my 2015 Duke blue devils basketball team entered the season (and we know what they did that year). Its just a feeling I have had for some time now. Here's to a great 2017 season and GO VOLS!

You seem to be forgetting one thing. Butchy can't name a starter @ QB. That's not good.

At least we have two good ones to choose from. I do believe that whom ever ends up being the starter will be a "good" if not "great" SEC QB. Besides I bet money that he already knows by now who's going to be starting. Other wise hes just a pushover and don't want to " hurt anyone's feelings". I for one like to think he has learned his lesson on that by now.

Coaches typically don't name starters before the opener because it could give the opponent a slight advantage in preparation. It happens all over the country where qb battles are taking place, and certainly doesn't automatically indicate a problem. There's not been a single report from media or coaches that has expressed concern with our qb situation.

You're right even the mighty Nick Saban does that.

Doesn't matter that he hasn't named him officially, we actually have 90% of an idea that it's going to be QD. Everyone pretty well knows who our guy is. Actually, if Dormady starts for this season and next. Then JG takes over and starts 2 seasons, etc. We will have actually had a really traditional and stable conveyor belt of QB recruitment/development/starting going back to 2015 with Dobbs. Especially compared to the Jim triple-wain system being ran down in Gainesville right now.

I don't know how good the Vols will be but I do have a suspicion that the SEC East is better than last year. How the BIG ORANGE fit into that will be more important.

So many people keep saying it's bad because Butch hasn't named a starter. I just don't see it that way. It's a bad thing if no starter has been named because they both have been inconsistent and look bad (ie. Florida right now). But if both are very consistent and look really good, that's a good problem to have. Especially if both light it up the first 2 games. It means the gators have to game plan for both QB's.

Feels like the last few seasons to me. Keep hearing about youth/inexperience, lack of depth, injuries, tough schedule, etc. We are supposed to be deep, experienced better on the OL but can't seem to get all these bigger, stronger OL on the field together and cohesive play is suffering as a result. A year older doesn't necessarily mean better. Hope it all works out, but it's hard to get excited when the OL which was the deepest position on the team and a supposed strength going into the season has been injured and many have spent a good amount of practice time sitting in the training room. For all the talk about Rock, we just don't seem to be a very tough football team. Maybe this freshman class will change that? Dunno but until this bunch shows something different on the field, I expect more of the same. Would gladly take 8 wins but see 7 as our ceiling.

There is a lot of inconsistent predictions on VN and press, but seems to be pretty consistent good reviews on team when "insider" views of team come out. Solid D and talented O. Hope we can out it together.

Are you talking about our coach Butch. We dot not have a Butchy.

Wait I thought our coach was Lyle?

I too feel like UT will be better than everybody who doesn't wear orange tinted glasses thinks they'll be. My question is, is that based on objective facts considering the question marks and who we lost, or is it based on my own homerism? I'm optimistic, but it wouldn't be UT without random disappointment throughout the way.

Is that keeping you awake at night, Cupcake?

I guarantee you CBJ already knows who is starting the GT game and my money is on Dormady. Why tell GT who the starter is so they can focus solely on him and be better prepared?

Lots of unknowns on the team that must come together and a difficult schedule makes me nervous. LSU and Alabama along with regulars in the east is tough. Not sure this is our year, but it could set the stage for another run in 2018.

Thanx jimmy.

You know we are going to have a good season when the hill folk come down and get exposed to the internet.
