I have 13 legitimate excuses why we lost the game

I don't think it can be stated enough honestly. The question is will we heal up as a team and will we not get down on ourselves and have the wheels fall off. I'm really worried about those things.

Too much to play for to become complacent and unmotivated. I'm exhausted just watching the past 4 weeks, I can't imagine what the players/ coaches must be feeling. We'll be fine and the Gators will lose at least one more. Bama was the better team, but they aren't 39 points better than us. There isn't a team that is 39 points better than us. We may very well play them again, and if history is any indicator, beating a team twice is very difficult. Go Vols, we're okay.

1) Maybin
2) Sutton
3) Wiesman
4) Kirkland
5) Robertson
6) Sapp
7) McDowell
8) McKenzie
9) O'Brien
10) P Williams
11) Foreman
12) Hall
13) Kendrick

This was embarassing for everyone, but YOU CAN NOT EXPECT TO HANG WITH BAMA WITHOUT 13 STARTERS/MAJOR CONTRIBUTORS.

I have 1 excuse.

1.) They are better than us this year.

Most of those 13 reasons are defensive players. Narrow the list down to the 3 real reasons the Vols lost
1)Poor QB reads
2)OL play
3) And most importantly, an OC that has no clue.

As a defensive unit, they were keeping the Vols in the game. After some time though, Debord's crazy offensive play calling and lack of creativity eventually wore the D down. Debord was the Vols worst enemy today. Props to the D. They were doing all they could to keep the game within reach. This should be a glaring example of how a bad OC can impair the Vols. JMHO.

Funny, I don't recall many around here being very forgiving of anyone pointing that stuff out.

Love the Vols, but our offensive play calls are horribly predictable. How many time was Dobbs going to hand it off to hurd/kamara instead of pulling it and running. Gotta give bama credit for having enough faith in their freshman QB. The only highlight is that were going 10-2 and have a chance to see bama again in the SEC Championship with a full team.

Definitely valid points.

Getting ran out of the stadium by 39 knowing it could have been much much worse doesn't offer much consolation for the future though.

Says this staff has to have a roster full of healthy upperclassmen to compete at the highest level.

Wow. Who would have thought that Catbone would bring the rational thinking. Sadly, many will ignore it.

I'm a negavol not an idiot. Lol but I hate that all our best recruits saw an empty stadium in the 3rd quarter. Not good.

Totally agree. This game will likely have lasting effects. Hopefully it doesn't affect recruiting too badly because this Bama game showed how important recruiting is.

i would add the killer schedule and attrition both have taken a toll. The team and fans should not be embarrassed playing #1 with NFL talent, three deep with 5*, coming off five emotional wins, and a gut wrenching road game with #8. We were ten point dogs coming in and no one I know gave us a chance. We need to rest up, regroup, and run the table. Playing young players will help down the road. Out talent may not be 5* but, dang they have played with heart and grit. Go Big Orange!

I remember reading where Shoop said no one would run the ball on us this year. We just got steamrolled and I didn't see Kongbo doing a lot either.

I don't see much McKenzie either. Our most effective DTs have been Vereen and O'Brien until this week. Now O'Brien is gone. Tuttle showed some signs of life today, But McKenzie was way over-rated. It's a darn good thing Barnett is at DE or this defense would be in dire straits.

We don't hang with them with all 13 playing! Ever wonder why we don't try and recruit the best at each position instead of settling? Saban recruits kids that are ready to play now and we recruit projects and take kids from natural positions to something new. Follow the Bama team just a little and you'll see their OL play one position and master it, ours has to learn all positions. We need to recruit better players that stay in that position that they've been playing since middle school. Recruit OL and LB, you guys realize our line isn't good at all at anything. Dobbs sacked today by Williams was a complete failure by Hall, he was pushed backwards by a LB, not a 300# DL, our line even when healthy is atrocious

Without the refs letting Bama hold on every offensive play, our defense keeps that game much closer.

Refs must be paid well to let all of those blatant penalties go uncalled today.

What about all of the "next man up" that we've been hearing? If we aren't recruiting any depth, then what happens when we lose our starters to natural attrition? There's something to be said for at least playing competitively, and today we saw that we don't have the depth of talent on any level to play competitively at this point. The scary part is that this is year 4, and our next recruiting class is not shaping up even be close to the level that we have seen previously. The next few years could be extremely ugly.

The blue-chips typically decide near NatSigningDay.
